I agree with the comments here regarding the wonderful menu options, the size of the portions and the popularity of the place. The only negative is that they do not have gluten free bread (or did not when I went in Nov 2014). Their competitors do. Get with the times, Martones!

Martones makes the best sandwiches! They are huge!! Nice casual atmosphere. Right in the center of town. Few tables to eat in restaurant or take out. You can also buy deli meat and meats for taking home.

Martone's is one of the favorite, local, lunch spots. I love the Vermonter and the Elizabeth. The subs are big enough to eat half one day and save the other half for another meal. Breads are baked fresh and meat is top notch. Soups and baked goods are delicious. They introduced me to Jamaican Ginger Beer. They stock Reed's which... More

While in the Essex area, we stopped here for lunch. At first, the menu seems a bit overwhelming. There are so many choices! From wraps, to sandwiches, hot or cold, to soups, you have to spend a few minutes getting comfy with the menu. I had the Old Smokey wrap with black forest ham, smoked turkey and smoked Gouda, along... More

I stopped here for lunch and ordered a sandwich. When I picked it up, it was the size of three sandwiches... Huge! The meats and cheeses are sliced right in front of you and they had serveral salads and baked goods to compliment your meal. Overall, a great value for the sizes you receive.

I work in a neighboring town and my office orders deli platters from Martones several times a year to celebrate new employee arrivals, birthdays, and company meetings. Martones is a staff favorite. The sandwich ingredients are always fresh and the potato salad is just like my grandma's, which is to say -- it's the best! In addition to enjoying Martones... More

So, I stopped off here for lunch and was blown away by the size of the sandwich I received. Their prices are on par for most places, but the amount of food they serve is staggering! Plus, they serve Boar's Head meats. Quality and quantity!

There is no comparison to Martone's. Simply the best sandwich shop in the United States. When we journey through Vermont, we stop at Martone's. It is usually packed every day for lunch, so don't expect to order and get your food like at a fast food stop. It is made fresh and the makings are measured in inches so you best... More
