Every time we've been in Burlington and wanting a sandwich, there's usually a line out the door at Red Onion. During a recent visit, there wasn't a line (yes!), so we finally got to try it. We had a Red Onion Sandwich (turkey, bacon, apple, cheddar, sundried mayo on wheat) and a veggie with homemade hummus on sourdough. Both were... More

Red Onion is a compact sandwich spot with a mid-sized menu of freshly made deli sandwiches. It is located right on the main pedestrian boulevard in downtown Burlington. Order at the counter and find a seat. Indoor and outdoor seating are available. The sandwiches were very good with home made bread. I would have preferred a larger selection of sandwiches,... More

We summer in Vermont and regularly visit Burlington. Today we tried out the Red Onion, for something new. Liverwurst was good, but rye was a bit dry. My wife's chicken salad was lacking chicken salad; there was barely any. There were two servers working the counter; the one we did not get sounded pretty nice. The taller guy who waited... More

We stopped in and got sandwiches to go when we were in town last week based on a friend's recommendation. Excellent, excellent, excellent. I had the red onion sandwich, my husband had roast beef and my toddler had half of a ham & cheese. All sandwiches were completely gone. Bread was so good. Would go here again for sure. Can't... More

We stopped by here while exploring Burlington. What a gem. Best sandwich I've ever had. We had the spinach melt. It's flavor....wow! Crazy good. It does take a bit for them to make it but it's worth the wait. So fresh. Price is really good too. Also a green restaurant.

I love the Red Onion sandwich at the Red Onion, but the service there is always very poor. I get a craving for the Red Onion every once in a while, but then I always swear it off for at least 6-months because the experience is so awful. This last visit (on Monday 5/26/14) was no exception. None of the... More

I've driven up to Burlington (5 hours) for the red onion sandwich on honey oat. Every time I am in burlington I bring home at least 7 of these sandwiches for friends and family. A must go! Please don't miss this sandwich shop if you are in town.
