August First Bakery and Cafe is locally owned and has been serving great pastries, coffee, breakfast and lunch since 2009. A true local favorite, located in a bright and open renovated industrial garage. A very Vermont experience with fresh and delicious food served by a friendly staff. Everything is made from scratch! Croissants, scones, muffins, Koiugn Amann, healthy soups and salads.

Stopped here on our way out of town, had the maple biscuits and the Kuhn (sp?) and the Hungarian roll. All were excellent the maple biscuit was flaky and delicious with light maple flavor, the Kuhn was so buttery and flaky, and the Hungarian roll was like a sweet pie crust rolled around a frangipani filling. 5 stars!

8 of us had lunch here, ranging from grilled sandwiches, to cold sandwiches to salads, and they were all delicious. The curried chicken salad was flavorful and nicely dressed, in particular. Great coffee and baked goods for dessert. Great quality. Slightly spacey service, but there you go.

We went for lunch, got a couple sandwiches and a croissant. Everything was great and seemed fresh. Nice quick lunch.

A little unexceptional. The rave reviews made me expect more, hence was disappointed. The pastry I had a distinctly yeasty taste, which is not good in a sweet pastry. The pain au chocolat was a little to crisp for a pastry - maybe I am reflecting to much on my recent trip to Paris, maybe this is the American way!... More

This place continues to be a standout on the Burlington food scene. Their cheddar jalapeño rolls are the best bread I've ever eaten. And when you have one as a breakfast sandwich with superior cheese, ham an egg there are no words for how good it is. Their baked goods leave nothing to be desired. Maple buns? You got it.... More

Great pastries and biscuits I will remember! Everything looked so good and it smelled wonderful. We stopped in to grab coffee and a pre-brunch treat. Wish I got some things to bring home.

On a recent visit to Burlington, VT, my wife and I stayed at the Hilton Gardens, and after we checked in, we did what most folks would do, we went for a walk! Walking toward the lake on Main Street, we noticed the August First Bakery and decided to check it out. Although they were technically closed, their door was... More

Lunch stop in Burlington and found this bakery/cafe. Ordered the Vermonter sandwich. It was enough for 2 people and delicious. Worth a visit.

We happened on this by chance. It feels very authentic Burlingtonian. Good food and not your typical chain eating establishment. (We avoid those when traveling.)

The scones are great! This is a really nice, cozy coffee shop with a good selection of baked goods. The coffee prices are a little pricey but standard for Burlington I think. Everything came out in a timely manner even though it was pretty crowded.
