Interesting place. Great atmosphere, unfriendly service, coffee was good, teeny cups, pastry really good. Laptop free is just another attempt to be cool in a different way. If you want people not to linger than don't offer wifi, but many business folks, alone travelers, students should be able to sit and enjoy snacks and coffee and peruse their laptop! The... More

I love the casual and relaxed atmosphere of that place. Of course I also really like some of there food. There soups are excellent. Their bread is not my favorite. However the baguette is wonderful. You order at the counter, they call your name when food is ready. It is mostly sandwiches, salads, soups and some pastries. All of it... More

Great spot in all seasons. Convenient for travelers, hang with the locals. Great baked goods, nice sandwiches and soups at lunch. Nice deck in fine weather, gets great morning light in winter for a cup of coffee or tea and a scone. Friendly, community-minded owners. I live here and go as often as possible.

My wife and I stumbled on this place by chance. The place is a nice cafe with numerous hyper healthy choices. Bread is very good and baked on the premices. Overall, I will go back whenever I am in Burlington cause the place is great. Not sure the laptop free zone is their best idea but it is in line... More

Incredible pastries, wonderful sandwich, great atmosphere. And best of all, no wifi -- actual talking to people and reading of books. What's not to love?

Loved their scones especially the lemon ginger one. Great for families or big groups. Loved the sign on their door: "Tablet and laptop free zone."

What's a good place for a light lunch, within walking distance of the boardwalk? we hungrily asked the friendly girl at Local Motion, after our strenous family bike ride along the shore of beauitiful Lake Champlain Without hesitation she recommended August First. We tramped up the hill and found this delightful bakery which has a really nice variety of sandwiches... More

after a horrid night stay in the last hotel room in town, we found this gem! Food and coffee were top notch! Atmosphere was comfy and we parked right in front of the cafe. The cafe opens to the street...so it was like having them with us! so cool...great art too!
