August First Bakery and Cafe is locally owned and has been serving great pastries, coffee, breakfast and lunch since 2009. A true local favorite, located in a bright and open renovated industrial garage. A very Vermont experience with fresh and delicious food served by a friendly staff. Everything is made from scratch! Croissants, scones, muffins, Koiugn Amann, healthy soups and salads.

Always a treat

Delicious, fast, great atmosphere. Salads are a great size and come with a mini baguette. Cross contamination for allergies is tough though since it is such a fast paced place. Even so I love it there!

I wish this place was in my hometown. Alas I have to go to Burlington to get my hands on their jalapeño cheddar bread and rolls and all the other goodies they make here. My go to spot for breakfast as they have the best breakfast sandwiches in the universe. The atmosphere here between the delicious smells and the comfy... More

Southwest Breakfast sandwich hot, flavorful, with just the perfect crunch from the roll, bean salsa enough heat to wake up taste buds. ( more cheese please ...it is Vermont!) Walnut pastry: surprising texture,( not as flaky as I was expecting..more rugalah like but wonderful anyway) Back again for sure

The feelings are mixed but overall very good. We wish there was skim milk available as the Latte's especially with sweetener don't need the whole milk but it's an inconvenience and nothing more. The maple pastry was good and the maple scone was very good (but became great with butter on it). In general the food was very good and... More

August First is a fun place. It can be a bit cold in the winter but the warmth of the fresh baked goods will suffice. The outdoor seating is on the side walk and I do wish that it was not so close to the road. The fresh baked goods and breads are wonderful. The produce used for the salads... More

August First Bakery and Cafe is the kind of restaurant you might dream of if you are a weary traveler looking for a great lunch or if you are a resident of Burlington out for a wonderful afternoon meal. My wife and I were traveling from the Boston area to Ottawa on February 12. I combed the reviews of restaurants... More

Visited August 1st with my family of 5 after Winterfest in Burlington. Great place to go to get warmed up after being out in the snow. The bread and desserts are delicious. We also had soup. Chick pea was a little watery but potato soup was nice. Nice selection of hot drinks as well.

We love the delicious food and exciting vibe at August First. Order and pick up at the counter. Bus your own table. Electronics are no longer welcome. A lot gets accomplished over lunches here.

Walked there during a small winter storm and was warmed by the soup. Try the Vermonter. It was a casual business lunch which I think is pretty typical for Vermont :)

It is a real serious bakery with equipment and tools visible behind the counter. Atmosphere is rough and rustic with brick walls, cement floor, high ceiling, and feels like a work place or a factory. Tables are placed around the walls and windows, and in between in the center. Those by the windows near the counter might be ok, but... More
