No frills bar, worth a stop for the beer

We visited McNeill's 3 years ago and loved the beer, so made a point to stop by on our recent trip to southern VT. They had probably a dozen house - brewed beers on tap, including 3 cask beers. Prices are fair, they have some pub food and snacks available, but it's definitely not a sit-down... read more

I agree with some of the other reviewers that this might not be the best place to go on a hot summer day. The place is a bit "gritty." The two beers I had were decent. I think it was called Lazarus, and the other was an "IPA Experiment." Bartender was extremely friendly as had some good suggestions. What wasn't... More

We went here just for drinks. The beer was disgustingly warm, flat, and tasted atrocious. There was also no a/c in here and the doors were wide open on a hot 85 degree day and it was probably 85 degrees inside the restaurant also. The bartender was so friendly though. I also didn't like how all their giant bags of... More

Two friends and I stopped in on the recommendation of a local store clerk. The place had lots of Vermont cheerfulness and hospitality but warm flat beer. Each of us tried something different but none of them were any good.

I liked it in here as there was a really good feel to the place. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, food was good and the ale was plentiful. What more can a man ask for? Well worth a visit.

Stopped in on a warm September day. the bar had no air conditioning. windows and doors were opened. There were tons of flies and Fruit flies. The beers tasted great, but you had to swat the bugs away to keep them out of you drink. I would go back but would be middle of winter.

First off, this is really a brewery, and more a typical brewery not something made as a tourist spot. That being said the beer is stellar, and soooo affordable. You can get $3 half pints of almost everything they have on tap. Most pints are $5. Its a great place to go and taste a wide variety of beer without... More

This place has a big variety of beer so u definitely have smth to choose from. The atmosphere is nothing special - drunks, people with a newborn baby, weird. The service could be much better. We came here in the evening and sat at the table and had to service. Any time we needed a beer we had to go... More

Kind of seems like the owner just gave up. The beer is great, the atmosphere is really lacking. Witnessed (and basically had to save) a female bartender from a drunk, angry old man harassing and threatening her. There is so much potential for this to be a great place, but it falls short. But still, I'm here practically every week.

Don't expect a Guinness here, but they have a lot of interesting stuff on tap or cask. This place, and Kipling's next door is a great 1-2 stop for anybody on a pub crawl in the winter, where you don't want to walk far.
