Unique

First of all this is a BAR with very little food options. It is unique bar but I always go back just for the beer. The beer is brewed offsite, Putney I believe. I tend to stop in mid-day on weekends so the place is always slow. I love all their beers, tap, growler of bottles.

McNeil's was one of the first microbreweries I ever sampled and I love coming back here every time I am in town. While things have changed a little over the years I can always rely on these guys to produce some of the best tasting brew I know of. We stopped in this past weekend (11/13) to revisit the taps... I'm an IPA guy - and they had 4 of their own on tap. Liked them all and loved Samson! Nice small homey atmosphere. Go bag a brewery!

Great place to drink hand crafted beer. The locals are some of the friendliest people in the world. My wife and I had a heat time and bought a bunch of O'Neill's beer to take home. Hope to get back there soon.

This was a cool bar - can tell it's a locals spot. Excellent selection of beer and appetizers, cool sunken bar area.

We visited McNeill's 3 years ago and loved the beer, so made a point to stop by on our recent trip to southern VT. They had probably a dozen house - brewed beers on tap, including 3 cask beers. Prices are fair, they have some pub food and snacks available, but it's definitely not a sit-down restaurant. Worth a stop... More

I agree with some of the other reviewers that this might not be the best place to go on a hot summer day. The place is a bit "gritty." The two beers I had were decent. I think it was called Lazarus, and the other was an "IPA Experiment." Bartender was extremely friendly as had some good suggestions. What wasn't... More

We went here just for drinks. The beer was disgustingly warm, flat, and tasted atrocious. There was also no a/c in here and the doors were wide open on a hot 85 degree day and it was probably 85 degrees inside the restaurant also. The bartender was so friendly though. I also didn't like how all their giant bags of... More

Two friends and I stopped in on the recommendation of a local store clerk. The place had lots of Vermont cheerfulness and hospitality but warm flat beer. Each of us tried something different but none of them were any good.

I liked it in here as there was a really good feel to the place. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, food was good and the ale was plentiful. What more can a man ask for? Well worth a visit.
