I get the local hippie vibe: Vermont is known for this ethos, right? However, if you are in food service, showering might be a good idea...or at least combing your hair neatly. The barefoot counter person was something I questioned where safety and sanitation are concerned. I'm not sure that is legal.

Regardless of the restaurant, beware of parking in Brattleboro!!! It was pouring rain and we got a something at a cafe before running back to the car. I got a parking ticket - it was written 4 minutes after my meter ran out! 4 minutes - were they waiting for it?? I was in a rental car, busy with work... More

After rejecting the hotel brown water that pretends to be coffee, I found Mocha Joe. They know how to make a good cup of cappuccino--strong with a proper amount of foam on top. I wish that Brattleboro would offer a soy alternative for us lactose intolerant folks. Almond milk, coconut milk (and delicious coconut creamer) is widely available. I don't... More

This place has a nice casual feel. The staff were friendly and hte coffee was very good. They only had one type of coffee cake to offer in the way of food, but we came in the late afternoon, so maybe they have more at other times of the day.

So adorable this subterranean coffee shop. They are great roasters and serve up a great cup of java. I love wearing my Mocha Joe's tee shirt (unbelievable logo) when I travel 'cause every once in a while some other addict comes up to me and we relate on a level hard to explain. I have driven 100 miles out of... More

Amazing coffee, roasted right down the street. I gave it four stars because the place is small and very few places to sit at. Also little place to stand too. I know it is their location but it does lead to frustration if your with two kids and end up standing on stairs in line.

Really, really good coffee...fun atmosphere, comfortable seating, occasional chess matches and a worthy collection of pastries.

This used to be reliably the best coffee in town. It is still very good, but now that many lunch spots in town have good espresso machines, they need to step up the consistency, to win regulars back. The small basement location is often crowded, and the service isn't always friendly. Their beans are available to purchase.

The coffee is wonderful (get a Mocha as the name suggests!) but the SCONES are outstanding. Not dry at all and so delicious I bought another to eat later in the day. Worth paying a little extra!

Time was when Mocha Joe's was the only place in town. However we've become spoiled and there's better out there. Some of it is in the handling. The espresso drinks are not creamy and fragrant. Perhaps not enough coffee is used. Food - albeit muffins, biscotti, etc, are just ok. The cafe on Main St itself is dingy and needs... More
