The place is indeed small. The open kitchen is 1/2 the space and the 7 tables completely fill the other half. The staff wears only sleeveless tops, an indication of how hot it will become with the giant range and ovens going throughout the long dining experience. The smell of grilling fat and fishes combined with the close over heated... more

Went to TJ Buckley's on a whim after reading about it in our guide book. We called around 7:15 on a Friday night and asked if they could seat us at 8:30 and they could! When we arrived, there was 1 other empty table, but that was it. The place is so tiny, when you walk in, you're the center... more

Yes it's pricey, but the food was first class. The halibut was just about the best fish I've ever had - firm, succulent, with accompaniments that suited it perfectly. My husband had the steak, which he says was excellent - very good raw ingredients and cooking, although the overall ensemble didn't harmonise 100%. The presentation of both our starters took... more

The food is great, and the preparation is fantastic (you can watch from most seats). Limited tims slots on reservations as they match seatings to control prep/cooking flow. So your food gets cooked at the same time as others. If you get there early, or others arrive late, you can end up waiting for them to arrive and order before... more

By far the best restaurant on our 9 day trip to Vermont. I didn’t even try to book a table at TJ’s for our stay in Brattleboro, thinking I would not be able to get in last minute. Fortunately, we met a gentleman at a local brew pub and were discussing restaurants in the area, he called the owner on... more

We have been dining at TJ's for about 15 years. We have never had anything but an excellent experience. This is not for those who especially enjoy iceburg lettuce with Ranch dressing. Although peanut butter and jelly does have a welcome place in my life, I definitly see the "value" of exquisitely prepared food by a genious. If cost is... more

We read lots of very positive reviews and decided to give this place a chance. Decor is interesting: tiny diner with a warm and comfortable feel. Sadly the food was merely acceptable. I could do better myself at home. A waste of $200 (for 2). more

Are you kidding me? You could drop $140 in NYC and get Outback Steakhouse level food. Lord. I think they might have off nights according to some reviews out there, although the friend who recommended TJs to me lived in Brattleboro for 2 years and never had an off meal. We lived together in Japan before that, so I hope... more

What a great meal!!! We went for dinner with friends for my birthday and my friend's birthday. What an amazing place. Very intimate. Food choices great - I had an appetizer, salad, entree AND dessert. Portions were just right - so at the end of the night I didn't feel bloated just satisfied. Can't wait to go back!! more

We had heard very positive comments from the locals on this "charming" and "top-class" restaurant. Well...The dinner was somewhat better than average with top marks for the ingredients but "haute cuisine" it is not... Just simple cooking of meat, fish and poultry. Expect a very cramped space and rudimentary comfort. Our table was not ready when we arrived and the... more
