Wouldn't drive here from Woodstock, but nice if you're in Barnard

Good food - not 5-star, but enjoyable and convenient when staying in Barnard. Good food - not 5-star, but enjoyable and convenient when staying in Barnard. There were no available tables inside so we ate outside, which was actually quite lovely although the outdoor table could have been cleaned better for us (and they could have asked some of the kids running around screaming very nearby to move elsewhere).

Lovely kitchen garden, fishing pond, with wonderful farm to table cuisine. The owner/chef exchanges produce from neighboring farms; I saw the squash blossoms we ate as an appetizer being picked at another farm a few miles down the road. Quite a thrill!

This is an award winning restaurant with tavern in the same building. The tavern is a cosy rural place ,mostly visited by locals.Importantly, the food is the same as in the restaurant with fresh local ingredients.Very attentive service.Moderate prices. We were there twice for dinner and will certainly visit again when in the area.

Great setting. Service and food were awesome for the wedding of my friend. The chef used only local harvest or grown food. Just perfect! The dinner in the barn and the party afterwards the night before the wedding reception was also a very good experience.

This al was extremely good. Fresh local ingredients, well cooked and presented. The owner chef deserves high praise. The restaurant was full and service acceptable.

Despite making reservations two weeks in advance, I was ignored while locals were waited upon immediately. Could it be that I was alone? I waited almost 15 minutes before my drink order was taken, and the server forgot to place the order for my second course and contined to ignore me. While that course was comped, I left the restaurant... More

We did a reservation ahead of time for July 2. This is a relatively small restaurant and the waiters passed our table all the time. We seat for 15 minutes and no one came to us. We asked one of the waiters and she said she will send someone. Another 15 minutes past and no one came even to offer... More

Dinner at Max's or in the dining room at the Barnard Inn is well worth the 9-mile picturesque drive if you're in Woodstock. This is Vermont-style comfort food. We both started with drinks (inventive cocktails and a good wine list), followed by generous salads from the garden, and then then a chicken Wienerschnitzel and home-grown vegetables. Nice.

The Inn has been around for quite a while and offers many selections. They also have an addition in the back for an informal type dinner. Service with a smile, very affordable.

Great food and inventive cocktails using vodka from a local distillery. The chowder was delicious and the portions for the main courses were generous. We will be back!
