The Inn has been around for quite a while and offers many selections. They also have an addition in the back for an informal type dinner. Service with a smile, very affordable.

Great food and inventive cocktails using vodka from a local distillery. The chowder was delicious and the portions for the main courses were generous. We will be back!

The Barnard Inn offers two dining choices, in the dining room a prix fix dinner and their tavern room menu. We had the prix fix menu and it was absolutely delicious. The presentation and services was excellent. The menu changes every day so if you are not the adventurous type of diner, call ahead and see what they are offering.... More

The people were very friendly, the food was varied and very hearty. Very convenient to our Inn. Easy to get a reservation. Seemed like many local people dine here.

We decided to go with the Tavern as opposed to the more formal dining room, as we were casually dressed. As it turns out we liked the freedom of ordering off of the full menu as opposed to the Prix Fix menu anyway. The selection is really exotic but everybody loved everything we tried. Especially the Cheese plate appetizer, the... More

Had the pleasure of dining in Max's Tavern on Saturday night. From the wait staff to the bartender to the chefs -- everything was great. Enjoyed a pickeled medly of vegetables, rack of lamb and bread pudding. Coupled with an 802 Old Fashioned and glass of wine recommended by the waitress (charming girl). Everything was great (again).

This is a gorgeous old house with character. There are two parts to this restaurant. The front of the house is fine dining and the back Max's Tavern. We have dined at both and they both have beautiful food. Open fires, great service and atmosphere. We will return.

I've eaten at Barnard Inn (Max's Tavern) several times. The owner and chefs produce great and interesting flavors. They also have local music occassionally which is a great way to spend a Saturday night.

We were staying down the road at the Maple Leaf Inn and rather then go into Woodstock for the first night decided to eat here in the tavern section. Staff was very friendly and attentive, they did forget to place my order to the kitchen, admitted fault and got it out to me within a very reasonable time. Mistakes are... More
