A Good Dinner Treat in Snowbird

While the overall dining choices are quite limited in Snowbird, the Shallow Shaft is a good dinner treat if you’re looking for a little more upscale food and fine wine list in a casually eclectic atmosphere. Manager was rude and assumed we only wanted to go food, not so. Food was average but way over priced. NOT worth the $, go down and eat at Snowbird!

Avoid the lodges and get to this excellent "stand alone" restaurant located just across the street from the Alta Ski Area parking lot. Only open for dinner but worth the wait. Out of this world cuisine. We ate there twice!

Very nice menu, well and interestingly prepared food, solid service. Recommendations are recommended because you will likely need one in order to get seated, especially during ski season. We went because it was recommended and we were not disappointed. A quirky and interesting setting added to the experience! I'd go back anytime. Having skied all day, combined with the elevation,... This restaurant is a nice stand-out from the generally mediocre food options in Snowbird. We enjoyed great food along with charming and knowledgeable service. Would definitely return

Our driver to the Cliffs Lodge stated emphatically that the Shallow Shaft is the best meal at Snowbird/Alta. After dining at the Aeres, the Steak Pit and the pizza place at Snowbird, we ventured to the Shallow Shaft and were not disappointed. Our server recommended a Bucklin Old Vine Zine (actually a blend of old vine zin and cabernet sauvignon,... More

Dined here with a large group from my ski club for dinner. The service was a bit frenetic with server darting among our four tables taking a few orders then taking off but coming back eventually for other orders. FIRST one caution for groups, they will NOT DO SEPARATE CHECKS. Only one check per table. SECOND caution, THIS PLACE IS... More

This place is best used for a funky but fun atmosphere. Stick to the steaks and potato part of the menu - parts of it were woefully over engineered. If you are staying in Alta/Snowbird this is probably one of your best bets. Make a redo and get there early. People tend to park themselves and do some serious drinking.... More

We went to shallow shaft after a long day skiing and snowboarding. The food was by far the best we had in the canyon. The waiters were knowlegable and very friendly. Had the short rib, and the mushroom papardelle. Both were tasty and well balanced. Would definitely recommend if you are at Snowbird or Alta.

With fond memories of prior visit in 2009 and with all the 5 star reviews, I was approaching this trip with trepidation of high expectations; I was not disappointed at all. A unique genuine décor that cannot be duplicated with distinct casual milieu created a welcome atmosphere. Our server admitted to being a bit stretched; such is life: I reassured... More
