After a long day of hiking, my husband and I stumbled upon this local gem and decided to stop. What a nice surprise. The food was really excellent. Locally sourced food and organic. Lovely, environment. You can eat in or outdoors. Would highly recommend it if you're in the escalante area of utah.

We passed through Boulder coming from Burr Trail and decided after long debate to have lunch at Hell's Backbone Grill. The restaurant is very nice and clean, wth freshly cut flowers at each table and a good menu with quality ingredients. My wife had the enchilada with goat cheese and scrambled eggs and I went for the BLT. Actually I... More

We stayed at the Lodge for a week and ate at the restaurant several times for both breakfast and dinner. The food is outstanding and presentation is excellent. The menu is limited but adequate, with perhaps eight or ten entrees, including one or two vegetarian dishes. We were disappointed that their special was the same for the entire week. The... More

We enjoyed 2 delicious dinners. Price was about $100 for each for 2 people (appetizers, entrees, dessert, 2 drinks) and a child's meal for our toddler. Services was excellent.

While staying at Boulder Lodge, we had dinner twice and lunch once at Hell’s Backbone. The restaurant is very good: Excellent service and a number of outstanding dishes - and several that need some work. The decor is very simple for the price point but we enjoyed the atmosphere (albeit with dim lighting). In the outstanding dishes category, the pumpkin... More

The Grill was recommended by a friend who had wonderful things to say about the food and people. We were not disappointed! It was everything stated and more. Blake, and owner, visited with us for a time and remembered our friends. The menu was good. I had an item that I had never had before and it was fantastic. It... More

Server was friendly, but not very efficient. We had to ask the hostess to bring our drinks after waiting quite a while. It was over priced for what you received and the menu was very limited. The setting was pretty, though, with the grassy area and pond.

Our main objective of the day was to ride motor scooters on Highway 12 "Hog's Back," but the eating dinner at this restaurant was a very close second goal. Wonderful food--organic, farm-to-table with the farm being right out back of the restaurant. Very inventive dishes--sweet potato "jenchilada" and a very interesting zucchini-mole. Attentive service for our large group of 15.... More

Our guidebook highly recommended this place, but said that they only served breakfast and dinner. But as we passed by, we noticed a "LUNCH" sign as well, so we doubled back and stopped. The restaurant is on the site of what appears to be a very nice inn, a seeming oasis incongruously placed amidst small farms and trading posts in... More
