Just north of San Antonio, at the edge of the Texas Hill Country, sits the small community of Leon Springs. Founded in the 1800s by Max Aue, Leon Spring's cityscape changed when Max's son, Rudolph, opened a one-stop gas station, garage, and grocery store. Bar-B-Q was added to the operation in 1989, and Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q has been serving up tasty food ever since. The same original recipes that built Rudy's Leon Springs' reputation are now available throughout the Southwest. Our pits are 100% wood fired with oak, a slower burning wood than the mesquite used by others. Along with time and oak, we cook with a dry spice that ensures each plate of Rudy's Bar-B-Q is perfectly ready for you. Apply some of our famous "Sause" and dinner is served.

Good BBQ

Rudy's is a unique experience. Don't expect fancy BBQ. It's anything but fancy. Rudy's is a combination gas station and BBQ restaurant. The BBQ is good. You eat at picnic tables and you're not served your food on plates, it's more like crates. If you can get over the crude setting, you'll... read more

I really enjoyed this dinner. Plenty of flavorful food. We arrived at 530pm for an early dinner so the line to order was short and it was easy to find seating for our group of 6. I enjoyed the lean brisket and both types of bbq sauce that were on the table. Another person in my group had the regular... More

We went to Rudy's with family visiting from out of town. Brisket was good. Air conditioner kept it cool. There was plenty of room for everyone at the long picnic style tables. 2 BBQ sauces. Sissy and regular. Regular was great -- not spicy but very good. Prices reasonable for the quality. They have condiment bar. Just right for any... More

We got there around 6:30PM. I order the ribs. The waitress was very nice and friendly. I ask her about how many came in 1/2 LB. She weighed them and showed me 4 very small ribs so I told her to add another 1/2 LB which looked very different then the first. When we sat down the first ribs were... More

All entrees served by the pound so we tried just about everything. Brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, turkey and jalapeño sausage. All good. There is a choice between lean brisket and regular. The lean was the best and very moist. Our least favorite was the pulled pork as it was a little soupy and the honey mustard flavor not terrific.... More

Stopped in Waco for the night and went searching for a place to eat. While driving around a little I passed Rudy's and after a bit decided it was the place to try. I went back and was glad I did. Full BBQ menu--I had baby-back ribs with potato salad on the side; best BBQ I can remember. If I'm... More

I went to eat here last year and thought I wasted my money. For some reason I decided to give it another try. I was right the first time. Decor is nice and it has a nice country feel, but that's all. Unless you like water flavored chicken and ribs, go elsewhere. Smells like they burn some type of wood... More

The food here is very good, but for what you pay you should get more. I left hungry. Very clean, but the set up is like an assembly line and they could have more interaction with staff to improve friendliness.

Rudy's BBQ establishments are typically located on Interstate Highways in urban areas that cater to travelers. Their locations include fuel, dine-in, and drive thrus for quick back-on-the-road meals. Rudy's does a great job smoking their meats and has excellent sauce. Their selection is great and is sold in plate portions, sandwiches, or by-the-pound for families. Bread is complimentary and "plates"... More
