After nearly two months on the road our journey has nearly come to a close for this year. Spending the night in Van horn, we turned to our trusty Trip Advisor for a place to have dinner. Oh, my goodness! This one is going on our SAVE menu. We went with the server, Mae Mae's suggestion of the pistachio fried... More

Van Horn, TX?!? Yep... One of the most surprising finds, El Capitán, a beautifully restored old hotel with an attached restaurant, is dishing up some seriously good meals! A varied menu from a fancy florentine to a scrumptious Chicken-fried sirloin steak replete with homemade (read "real!") mashed potatoes and delicious (mild) jalapeño country gravy. An adequate selection of really good... More

we were hungry and looked for a place to eat. Not many are here in town with a menu we were looking for. We checked Trip and it said try here so we did. I guess the double rainbow that rested right in their parking lot was an omen to the little pot of gold off I-10. We asked what... More

Had the Rib Eye. After a full day of hiking, with aching muscles, and a growling hunger, it was pretty good, matched with a decent wine. The Pecan Pie was the best I've had in recent memory. The waitress was delightfully charming and attentive.

Limited menu, uninspired options. At least what they offer they cook well. The mashed potatoes were good and the lemon pepper chicken was cooked nicely. The lady enjoyed her shrimp rigatoni. Service left a lot to be desired. Our waitress was nowhere to found most of the evening; simply getting the check took 15 minutes after we had finished. The... More

The continental breakfast has about everything you could want. Dinner prices are in the upper teens. Hamburger and fries a little pricey at $14 but very good.

We only had dinner and drinks in the bar area. I cannot say anything about the hotel. The food was good for a small town.

High end food and a superb server in blue jeans. The food was outstanding. Our server, Debbie, was so friendly! She provided us with some history of the city. The food was fresh and delicious. The chicken Florentine was awesome!

Road trip! Usually means drive thru's & a roll of the dice in a new town come dinner time. Luckily my wife is a Trip Advisor and Yelp die-hard..... Van Horn TX, a little dusty and rough around the edges. The El Capitan will make you forget all about it for an hour or two. Beautifully re-done old hotel. "Charming"... More
