The restaurant was apart of the hotel and was very convenient for access. The menu was good. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and served hot. There is a $2.00 charge for split service. The free breakfast was excellent and several items were offered for selection. The restaurant had a bar with a TV. We noticed... More

The food was well worth the cost. We've eaten at tons of chains and paid more for the food, yet El Capitan blew them out of the water. I had the lemon pepper chicken and they went way out of their way to make everything on the plate tasty. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the green beans were seasoned and... More

You don't expect this in a small town. Quaint historic hotel with a very good restaurant. We both had the Pistachio Fried steak which was delicious. The jalapeño gravy was a nice touch. Prices were just a tad bit high.

The El Capitan, like the Gage in Marathon and the Paisano in Marfa, is a Trost hotel from the 1920s and has been renovated and reopened. The building is beautiful and the restaurant is quite good. Lovely atmosphere, friendly service, good food and a value. There are a couple of other eateries in dusty Van Horn but this is the... More

Pros: This place is a shocker. Located in the first floor of a very nice hotel (El Capitan) with a large patio and fountain. The two women working were friendly and made great martinis and did a good pour of wine. Greek salad and pistachio crusted chicken fried steak outstanding. The desserts looked wonderful. Cons: None. If I lived near... More

The dining room was lovely and the service excellent! We shared the shrimp appetizer..which was spicy, delicious and different. Each of us had a pasta dish and thought the sauce could have been thinned a bit as it was very thick but it was very good. My husband called this an "oasis in the middle of no where"!

I already posted a review of this restaurant under the heading of the hotel. We loved the atmosphere, the food, and the service.

The restaurant is in the historic El Capitan Hotel, which has been beautifully restored. White tablecloths, real flatware and glasses, ambiance and decor

We stopped here for dinner. Unfortunately the power was off in the town and the kitchen was down. No problem! Margaritas until the power came back. I had their ribeye which was one of the best I've had. Nice decor in the restaurant and lounge, and the hotel in general. A restored hotel from 1930. Lobby, restaurant, and lounge were... More
