Outstanding dinner. Wife had days special top sirloin came with loaded baked potato, green beans, and salad. She chose the Greek salad. I had the chicken fried steak called pistachio fried or something like that. Veg. And salad. Both were outstanding . Had a bottle of wine with dinner also that was from a good selection of wine. High end food and a superb server in blue jeans. The food was outstanding. Our server, Debbie, was so friendly! She provided us with some history of the city. The food was fresh and delicious. The chicken Florentine was awesome!

Road trip! Usually means drive thru's & a roll of the dice in a new town come dinner time. Luckily my wife is a Trip Advisor and Yelp die-hard..... Van Horn TX, a little dusty and rough around the edges. The El Capitan will make you forget all about it for an hour or two. Beautifully re-done old hotel. "Charming"... More

Hamburgers are great and the pistachio crusted chicken is wonderful. I ate in the dining room once and the service was fine and the other time I ordered something to take to the room and they offered to help me carry it.

I stayed here overnight and decided to just stay at the hotel and enjoy some wine and dinner. I was by myself so I sat at the bar and I had very good service from Elena! The house wine wasn't the best I ever had but I didn't realize at the time that this place was more upscale than I... More

The restaurant was apart of the hotel and was very convenient for access. The menu was good. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and served hot. There is a $2.00 charge for split service. The free breakfast was excellent and several items were offered for selection. The restaurant had a bar with a TV. We noticed... More

The food was well worth the cost. We've eaten at tons of chains and paid more for the food, yet El Capitan blew them out of the water. I had the lemon pepper chicken and they went way out of their way to make everything on the plate tasty. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the green beans were seasoned and... More

You don't expect this in a small town. Quaint historic hotel with a very good restaurant. We both had the Pistachio Fried steak which was delicious. The jalapeño gravy was a nice touch. Prices were just a tad bit high.

The El Capitan, like the Gage in Marathon and the Paisano in Marfa, is a Trost hotel from the 1920s and has been renovated and reopened. The building is beautiful and the restaurant is quite good. Lovely atmosphere, friendly service, good food and a value. There are a couple of other eateries in dusty Van Horn but this is the... More
