We have eaten there every year for the past four years. Quality of food and service has declined rapidly for the past two years. We were very disappointed last year. This year my son in law got severe food poisoning from fried clams or oysters he ate there on 6/19/09. We ended up in the ER in Brownsville on 6/21... more

Food was great and during our trip we did eat their four times lunch,dinner great lunch specials had the pan broil flouner,then another day had the blacken flounder also had the stuff crab shrimp and the crab cakes. The food was excellent. i try the fried shrimp. It had 9 jumbo shrimp, I asked fro rice and cole slaw. It was delicious! Huge cole slaw and my plate also had the biggest onion ring ever. Great food all the way around! We ate at Blackbeard's twice (one for lunch, another for dinner). The seared tuna on the appetizer menu is exceptional! Daily specials are not to be missed. Overall a great experience, good service and value meals on the island. Worth a repeat! more

What is it with the mashed potatoes on the Island? They all suck! Anyways, I got the fried shimp meal. It was okay I guess. I liked the margaritas, they were super strong, my gf ended up puking at the public beach access....good times. more

Table was not clean and food was just common tourist-trap fare. I drove from McAllen just to be close to sea to get seafood. That was a waste of time. I am from New England, so I know seafood and I admit perhaps I am a bit more picky about how it is cooked. I got the broiled mixed platter.... more

Nothing special about their special... chicken fried steak; gravy was average; mashed potatoes pretty good. Ahi sandwich was well cooked but ordinary garnishes and bread. Won't go back or recommend more

Our annual trip to SPI always includes a stop at Blackbeard's. This time it was 1 of only 3 restaurants with power 7 days after Hurricane Dolly, 7/30/08. They had a limited menu and a portion of the restaurant was closed due to hurricane damage. However the shrimp poboy's and gargantuan home-made onion rings were "over the top" good. And... more
