Surprise Chef!

Love the menu choices. They are limited but certainly well priced. The steak and the chicken fried steak are amazing.

This is a charming little restaurant. We enjoyed our meal but it's not the high end place some describe. My husband got the chicken fried steak - full portion - and be aware it was VERY generous. The half portion is probably a normal meal.

Nice place to stop for lunch. Portions are enormous: you get a main course with two sides, plus unlimited chili and a salad bar, for only $1 more than chili and salad alone. They could use a more upscale coffee maker, but really, it's a pleasure to find a place like this in a town too small for a McDonald's.

The food is very good but be prepared as they are quite expensive! Service is quick! Must try at least once!

Who'd a thunk there'd be this amazing little cafe hiding in Smithville? Wow! We were driving through town at about 7:30pm and were ready for dinner. After reading reviews here on TA, we decided to give it a try. Wonderful atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious homemade dishes. The small menu was a refreshing change from the giant overload of choices... More

The food was subpar. The wine was too warm. Apparently there is a new chief. Service needs improvement.

Delicious Beef Tenderloin! Cozy and casual and great food. Antique store connects with the cafe. Order a glass of wine and while you wait for your food you can stroll thru the antique shop.

This cafe was a very unexpected treat! Great food and atmosphere! Everything is prepared from scratch, so expect it to take a little longer than the norm. Just know that the wait is well worth it. We ate there twice and both dinners were excellent. It was part taste and part art! The presentation of those yummy salads was beautiful.... More

The food here is delicious. Chicken Fried Steak was huge and very tasty. Hubby loved it. I had the Salmon and it was really good. The honey mustard dressing for the salad was also outstanding. Great place to eat.

I love Back Door and I go there every week for lunch. My favorites that the chef has prepared - meatloaf, pulled pork tacos, chicken fried steak, baked catfish and chicken fried chicken. For lunch there is always a fish, a chicken, plus the two chicken fried meats. You need to try the Jack Daniels pie - Yummy!
