Great presentations, excellent tastes and all with a friendly smalltown Texas atmosphere! Great Steaks, Salad and Sides and all prepared by a gourmet Chef! Excellent desserts! And don't forget to visit the Antique Shop next door!

If you do go, make a reservation! You will be asked at the door promptly. Locals made this place out to be better than sliced bread...might want to bring your own! Service slow, quality and finesse lacking. The renowned "bacon-dripping" made cream gravy for the chicken fried steak was gelatinous! Mushroom sauce, overbearing with rosemary! Limited menu & choices, prices... More

Family run, this is fine dining in a small town! Great food and service! Gotta have the chicken fried steak! Save room for pie!

I arrived before they started serving dinner so all they had was barbeque pizza, which is not my favorite. The salad was healthy, but needed more... They did have a good selection of beers and wines and the country atmosphere is inviting. As an up-and-coming business, they should realize that, even in a small town, most people are going to... The small town of Smithville doesn't have many dining alternatives. Therefore the Back Door Café is one of only two choices for sit down dining with waitress service in town. That said the menu choices are limited, the choices available on the limited menu often run out, and the menu doesn't change often. The menu is a strange mix of... More

Headed into Smithville to attend an Art show at Mosaic Downtown and had 2 different people tell us we should go to The Back Door Cafe for dinner! We made a reservation, a good thing on a Saturday night, and were seated promptly upon arrival. Service for us that night was great. The Chef/Owners daughter served us and was very... More

For a sleepy town of 3600, we were amazed by the experience at Back Door Cafe. (I left off "coffee shop" because it does the place a disservice). A small family run restaurant, we enjoyed a spicy shrimp skewer over rice and a killer CFS. Real meat, real tender, only slightly pounded and served with cream gravy. My only wish... More

Ate here by default as the restaurant we came to dine in turned out not to be open. Food was delicious! Yes, it's a limited menu, but it was rather nice to be able to make a quick decision. My husband had the chicken fried steak, which I tasted, and it was probably the best CFS he's ever had out.... More

I was staying at the Katy B&B in Smithville recently and the innkeeper recommended the Back Door as a good place for dinner. It definitely was! I ordered the snapper and it was delicious. I will definitely eat there again should I ever pass that way.
