Great Burgers and Onion Rings

Stopped by The Tap Room for lunch after visiting the local University. What a great local treasure. The burgers were excellent. The buns melt in your mouth and the beef tasted like a higher quality cut than is often served at other places. The fried onion rings were some of the best I have... read more

My wife and I recently visited the Tap Room and had a great experience. We entered The Porch from the square and it is not immediately obvious where the Tap Room is located. Go through the bar area and down a hallway. Seating is self serve. The waitress told us to seat ourselves which was odd considering there were no... More

Stayed for one night in San Marcos after arriving at Austin Airport and we were advised to eat at The Tap Room. It is obviously a very popular place as had trouble getting a table. My salad and chips were really good but the server forgot our other main meal, which was really disappointing as it took ages to get... More

We stopped in mid-day for some tacos and beer. The place was alive; lots of TVs going and lots of folks moving in and out. San Marcos is a great college town and the students make the place come alive. It was friendly, kick-back, with no rush to move you on. Definitely a great hangout with all the draft beers... More

This is a local favorite, our family member told us they have more than 100 different beers, plus t more beer is sold here than any other location in San Marcos, i.e. a very popular spot. The service was quick and good. The burgers fabulous, not so keen on the French fries and thick and not crisp but overall everyone... More

From Houston, wanted a quick, inexpensive and tasty burger near Texas State Uni. Guacamole and queso burger didn't disappoint. To-go service was quick.

I was traveling on business and wanted a quick meal. I ordered an appetizer and a salad with chicken, as their menu items weren't all available. The food was pretty marginal but the atmosphere was energetic, and there were TV's with football for the sports enthusiast. I would totally recommend for a game night with friends and beer, but probably... More

A friend recommended the Tap Room, but said the service usually stinks. We went in with the expectation of a good burger and slow service. We had GREAT service. Our waitress was flawless! The burgers were good too!

Always try to stop by when in San Marcos- great selection of beers on tap- burgers, fries, and ribs are all good choices off the menu.

Looking over a restaurant list supplied by my motel, I decided to try The Tap Room. Interesting set up. A bar with many bottled choices up front, and a different bar with food and probably a hundred tap beer choices in the back! Separated by a hallway. Both in old downtown San Marcos. Brought a couple along the second night,... More
