A beautiful day for a drive from Austin, Had heard about Gil's and saw mostly rave reviews. It did not live up to them in our book. Nothing special about hamburgers, although wife at least said the buns were best part. Had ordered the house special Manske roll for dessert. When I went to pick it up there was no... More

Burgers were handmade and fresh and the cinnamon rolls awesome. We actually wanted to go there for lunch yesterday (Valentine's Day) but our son chose Sean Patricks, which was great also.

We stopped in here for a quick lunch and for the famous Manske rolls. Burgers were good and loved the cinnamon rolls - wish we had gotten more - very buttery! We know this is an old restaurant and appreciated that - however there's things that could be done to retain the historic value and still make it appear cleaner.

Gil's has been a staple of San Marcos and the college since the days that it was girls teacher college. I went to the college '70-73 and it was quite a treat for the burgers and Manske rolls when I had the money. Location is just off the square. If your in San Marcos, don't miss Gil's and a Manske... Kids in this college town love this little place but the hamburgers were average at best. The fries were not good at all and the Manske rolls everyone raves about were good... But Cinnabon is better (sorry to say). One thing I was impressed with was the onion rings. Vert tasty. Also the dining area leaves a lot to be... More

This quaint little restaurant has good food, good service and the BEST cinnamon roll in town. You must try the Manske Roll. We had ours at lunch for dessert!!

If you've never had one, you haven't lived! These rolls have been around since my college days 30 years ago! Definitely not for the dieter, but splurge or share one. Drenched in butter, yum yum!

Lettuce in a grilled cheese sandwich! Really?! Yuck. The burger was good but the onion rings were hard and stuck together. Something easy to fix but we didn't want to re-order. Filling up on the scrumptious rolls made us very satisfied customers!
