Visited Texas State in San Marcos and decided to have lunch. Saw a couple positive notes about Gil's Broiler on the internet about being the oldest restaurant in San Marcos and a good place for a burger. Inside was all new so no cool feel of a vintage grill restaurant. Burger and fries were... read more

Used a Groupon for burgers and Manske rolls. Very delicious. Got our food "To Go", but would have enjoyed eating in this old fashioned diner style restaurant. You won't be disappointed, but be prepared to wait, it's a busy place! Worth it!

My family recently stopped by for lunch. The burgers were juicy, with a hint of sweetness to the buns. My kids also liked the chicken strips. The overall atmosphere was fun. We will be back.

The burgers are good, but I come here for the Manske Rolls. These are cinnamon rolls on steroids! Housemate since the beginning of time and worth the sugar high you are bound to get. The management does not believe in turning the air conditioning on, so be prepared to sweat a little in this steamy but ever so tasty joint.

Wow you walk into this place and you walk back in time. We ate the signature Manske Cinnamon roll, a must have. The staff was extremely friendly, but the cinnamon roll is what made me write this review. YOU MUST TRY ONE!!!!

The burgers are beyond delicious, but the manske roll (with ice cream on top OF COURSE--my favorite is the coffee ice cream)...those manske rolls are insanely good!!!

My wife and I had hamburgers and onion rings. Food was good and service was above average. The restaurant only has windows in the storefront so it almost feels like you are underground. It's close to Texas State University and is probably frequented by students. We were there mid afternoon on a Sunday. The Manske Rolls are very good! They... More

We had no expectations and just needed lunch, so stopped at Gil's. The hamburgers, with handmade patties and homemade rolls, were exceptional, as were the onion rings. Our hostess/order-taker was patient and friendly. None of us had the Manske rolls, but they were flying out of the kitchen, so are apparently quite popular. Happy to have found this place.

Gil's Broiler and Manske Roll Bakery is just off the square in San Marcos. It has a small front, but goes back quite a way. It is not fancy, at all, but they have very good burgers. They make Manske rolls, which I have heard, George Bush used to have sent to the White House. Regardless, the hamburgers use some... More

This place has delicious food and a nice environment to offer but their staff is most definitely rude. Hate to write badly about them but hopefully this reaches someone in charge to let them know a friendly attitude would be nice. I have a fast-food job and manage to be warm and welcoming. It's tough but you were hired for... More
