Lunch

Stopped for sweet potato fries and a roll, which totalled to over $9. The service was a tad slow but it was due to having to fry the fries, understadibly. Got the roll with melted chocolate and bacon. It was presented nicely and tasted really good! Far exceeds the big chain cinnamon roll. Yum!

The manske roll from Gils was once the best you could get for miles around. My family has been going to this place for 30 years. It had been quite a while since I had visited because the quality and taste had just fallen completely off. While they are still not what they once were, I was satisfied with the... More

Still good, but if you were here in the early days when the manski was invented and the burgers were much larger and just better overall quality. it was exceptional back then but still good today.

Took my granddaughters to San Marcos for a day out, and I told them about the famous Manske Rolls. They are giant cinnamon rolls that have an amazing history, so google if you like cinnamon rolls, you can order on the internet. The restaurant where these awesome, decadent rolls are made, really falls short of even being appetizing. The girls... More

I've been going to Gil's since college in 1979, and during my recent visit it was like stepping back in time and partaking of the tastes I remember back during my university days. The burgers are broiled and tasty. I also get their home cut onion rings which are thin and crispy. Of course, the best part is the Manske... More

I've gone to Gils Broilers ever since the 70's and it has never failed to satisfy my hunger. I'd recommend the Gilamonster with a Manski role on the side. The atmosphere is very casual. I don't think they've done much to the place since it was started, but that is part of the atmosphere. The restrooms are horrible, though.

If you've never had a Manske Roll, you are missing out! They are warm, gooey, sweet and just delicious. I live in San Antonio, and I drive to San Marcos for one of these, really I'll get a couple of boxes of them to go. Yes, they are good when they're warmed in the microwave too.

A beautiful day for a drive from Austin, Had heard about Gil's and saw mostly rave reviews. It did not live up to them in our book. Nothing special about hamburgers, although wife at least said the buns were best part. Had ordered the house special Manske roll for dessert. When I went to pick it up there was no... More

Burgers were handmade and fresh and the cinnamon rolls awesome. We actually wanted to go there for lunch yesterday (Valentine's Day) but our son chose Sean Patricks, which was great also.

We stopped in here for a quick lunch and for the famous Manske rolls. Burgers were good and loved the cinnamon rolls - wish we had gotten more - very buttery! We know this is an old restaurant and appreciated that - however there's things that could be done to retain the historic value and still make it appear cleaner.
