Gilhooley's is a really laid-back hangout, full of personality. Really good seafood and great service.
oyster's Gilhooley,s were very good went twice while in the area will defiantly go back when in town it is very laid back I ate outside each time I know this bothers some people . Grilled shrimp were very good as well not to mention the beer was cold
It's a bit of a dive but the food is great, the portions are big and the prices are very reasonable. I would go again.
The smokey Oysters Picante and the grilled shrimp are absolutely outstanding, and the Boudain Balls aren't bad either. Forget a salad, just eat the oysters and shrimp. A semi-biker, local hangout with a gravel and oyster shell paved parking lot, smoking inside, no smoking outside and a no kid, cash only policy, Gilhooley's may not appeal to everyone. The draw... OK, this place is not for the weak of heart. Gilhooley's isn't the place you want to go if you are looking for a white table cloth restaurant. It is also not a place to go if you are queasy about things not being...well, super clean and tidy. Gilhooley's is a wharf rats paradise though. The very best oysters at... More
Used to work just down the road from here. I love the oysters gilhooly with our without the shrimp but really have not had anything have not enjoyed. The burgers are not bad either with a side of potatoes and cheese. Only complaint is the cash only policy.
Overall as restaurants go, it's a dump - an experience like you've never had. However; the food is great. Service is allot like you would get in a busy truck stop. The place has more smoke than a California Forrest fire. It's the kind of place most people would go to once. Local folks love it, as there is alot... More
I've eaten at Gilhooley's five or six times over the years and they have the hands-down best oysters I have ever eaten. A dozen raw will amaze you for their taste and size, but save room for a dozen Shrimphooley's, with a big shrimp placed on top of a big oyster, drizzled with garlic butter and Parmesan cheese and cooked... On the way to Galveston for the Sand Castle contest. We never miss Gilhooley's. Had the stuffed shrimp this time. It was great. Actually I have not had one thing I did not like. Love the atmosphere and no kids.
My friends have been raving about it for years & finally this past Saturday about ten of us got together for beer, oysters, and shooting the BS talk (we've been friends for 30+ yrs). Since it was a nice evening, we chose a big table on the patio. Nice breeze - friendly people around us. Our waitress was fantastic -... More
