Chef Ted Grieb has taken his talent to a new level ! The Fatted Calf, on the square in downtown Rockwall, specializes in "Down Home Chic" food at a reasonable price. Formerly Old Timers, the Fatted Calf is a comfortable, upscale restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. Special dinners and evening events take place throughout the year. Daily specials are offered and feature only the freshest, seasonal ingredients. The genesis of the restaurant came from the need for a high quality, comfortable dining establishment in Rockwall. Ted was raised by his mother (a great cook) and father (a great fisherman) in southern New Jersey where he developed a love for farm fresh food, freshly caught seafood and large portions! Everyone in the family has a love for food, including his sister Beth who makes the jams, pastries and desserts for the restaurant. Chef Ted has made his home in Rockwall with his wife, two adorable daughters, four crazy dogs and three friendly cows. Manager Blake Kirk is always available to help you find a table or place an order! They have both been essential in the opening and management of The Fatted Calf. They and the staff at the Fatted Calf aim to please and will always greet you with a smile. Shoreline Restaurant Corp., The owners of Culpepper's and The Oar House as well, saw the talent of Chef Ted and the opportunity to take The Fatted Calf to a new level. The Fatted Calf moniker refers to the daily celebration to be had at the restaurant, where friends and family can meet for a quick bite or an extended stay. A little wait but well worth it.

Wife daughter and I visited for breakfast. We were seated promptly even though they appeared busy. We all ordered the egg Benedict which were cooked to perfection and were delicious. The crowd was friendly as were the staff. Highly recommend the fatted cafe. We will return!

Great food, great service...we have never had anything bad. My only wish would be a bigger menu or more specials.

Hubby, daughter and I stopped in around 115pm today and got seated immediately. The place was about 1/2 full. The service at our table was very good and the hostess was cheerful. Daughter had her usual of lobster bisque, turkey sandwich & fries waged down with a Bloody Mary. Thumbs up! Hubby tried the fried catfish and said it was... More

If you want the best, you can't do better than the fatted calf. Meals are prepared to melt your imagination. Love goes into every order. I honestly cannot use a description like this with regards to many restaurants. Two suggestions: Breakfast & Blue crab dip. You won't be disappointed with anything on this menu. It's bliss!

Had a nice brunch there. Nothing fancy but solid traditional brunch offerings. Décor is plain and homey. Food was good. Service was fine (they seemed a bit busy). Good local place.

Food was good but it was by far the slowest service we have ever experienced for breakfast food. Definitely not good for large groups. We had 7 adults and 2 kids. We will try it again with just 2 and see how it goes?

First and last time going to the fatter calf. Me,my wife and two kids tried this place on 1/2/2016. We didn't even get to try the food because the host was so terrible. It started when we walked through the door, no hello, no welcome to the fatter calf or anything. We walk up to hostess desk which is two... More

We've visited TFC three times now, once for brunch and twice on Tuesdays for their "Burger Night" ($9.50 specialty burgers and $3.50 local...well, mostly local...craft brews). On all three occasions the food has been well worth the price, and the service more than adequate for a more-or-less casual atmosphere place.

I was disappointed in the brunch, I ate a omelet that had no flavor. But, the homemade biscuits make up for the omelet.

Service is typically poor and food is average at best. At this price range, I'd suggest Zanata or Bin 303, both within walking distance.
