Great Fish Stop

We thoroughly enjoyed our stop at Schempy's. The service was friendly and prices were reasonable for fresh fish caught in the area. The interior of the restaurant is reminiscent of a fishing dock which adds to the experience. Make sure to save room for the bread pudding. We've had bread pudding... read more

Shempy's was good. We had fried calamari. It was a little too heavily breaded, but was very fresh and pretty big. I'd say even with the breading, it was one of the best I've had. I liked it better than at the coast in Italy. We also had fried green beans, which were excellent. For entrees we had a crab... More

Astronomical prices for what you get, but unfortunately that's not uncommon for this area...prices WAY too high in the Costal Bend...and frankly, it's a dive. Now, there are dives, and there are dives. And if you're a dive, you must have the BEST food around. And your staff must hustle. There were only a few folks in there around 1:30,... More

It was our first visit. Donna was our waitress. She recommended the blackened red fish with grilled veggies! It was a great choice. Hot, fresh and spiced perfectly. My husband had the seafood plate with crab cakes, fried oysters and shrimp. It to was hot, fresh and delicious. We had bread pudding for dessert, it is a MUST try! One... More

Wife and I ate at this small seafood restaurant located between Rockport and Aransas Pass Tex. Wife had catfish and I had fried oysters. Both plates came with French fries and coleslaw. Food was well cooked and delicious. Once we ordered, our plates were ready in less then five minutes. THE FISH AND OYSTERS WERE NOT THE FROZEN KIND. Our... More

Decided to try Shempy's @ 615pm on a Teusday. The parking lot was pretty full and I told my wife that we would probably have to wait. Sure enough, a staff member told we would have a short wait and we waited for about 10 minutes for a table. The staff member told us that they were a little behind... More

Would be 4 STARS but This is NOT one of those smiling friendly face kind of places, (they could stand to work on that) but they do have a Great soft shell crab sandwitch that kinda makes up for it. It is a little pricy if I remember correctly but excellently prepared the 3 times we have it. So if... More

If you like hush puppies that are dine to perfection this is a must! Crisp, well seasoned and not a bit greasy- so incredible we had to order more to go!!! Shrimp were large and were prepared well, as were the tots and crab cakes. Busy, low key place. Worth a stop

I agree with the other positive reviews! Great food! Funky atmosphere, but clean. It was crowed at 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon. Out of the way, but worth finding. Big portions. 4 jumbo fried shrimp and a large crab patty, grilled veggies, hush puppies : $18. 4 fried shrimp and 3 large fried catfish, hush puppies, coleslaw and fries: $15.

Shempy's is just a wonderful little place to eat a really good meal. We have only been once but it was a really good experience. The burgers were the best I have had in years and years. The wait people are fun and friendly and the cook/owner will come out and ask how you are doing and whether your food... More
