We only knew about the Swinging Door thru our friends. they all said the restaurant is very good. It is only a few blocks from our house, so one day we want to give it a try. It's not a fancy place, but it is very cozy once inside. Their meat are so juicy and tender, the best there is.... More

Ate here with family who wanted me to experience real Texas bbq. Just step in the door and the wood-smoked, bbq smell just wafts over you! Nothing fancy, but portions are generous. I shared a two meal platter with someone and we couldn't eat it all. Brisket is delicious -- very rich. Chicken is good, not quite as tender as... More

We live in Richmond but only found out about Swing Door when a friend from PA came in town and had found it online during his flight. Pretty surprised we had not come across it before. The food was great and service was on their game. Only minor inconvience was a couple of the plates were warm when served and... More

I've been here 3 times now. I love their food! Their sausage is my favorite! Their green beans are yummy too. I can't never finish my food as their portion is pretty big. I recommend everyone to try!

I rate bbq on if the ribs fall off the bone and the taste of the brisket. I have no complaints here. May be a little expensive but the food is fantastic.

Family dinner and we are used to eating Texas barbecue..my niece liked her pb sandwich. Green beans were barely cooked and sweet. Potato salad was tasty but new dirty rice was not the best. Ribs were enjoyed by all who ate them. Salad with homemade ranch was really good. Beef brisket was fatty and chicken really needed to be seasoned... More

Just open the door to this "classic" Texas BBQ restaurant and your taste buds start salivating for the BBQ. (Even a vegetarian in our group LOVED the smell!) The restaurant is decorated with old stained glass windows from churches, farm implements, and old photos for a country feel. Paper menus outline the menu of meats, sides, sandwiches, and desserts. We'd eaten at the Swinging Door previously and had a good experience; however, something seems to have changed. The cost of their food has increased but the service and food quality have decreased. When we visited they weren't very busy so we expected to have a great experience but that was not the case. To pay $16/person for a subpar... More

Unnnnnnnnh. That is the guttural sound I make when diving into a plate of Swinging Door BBQ. I've never been a huge fan of BBQ. I don't have dreams about it the stuff or cravings for it, so I was especially annoyed when my now-husband's family wanted to take us out to Saturday evening dinner at their local "PG" (a... More

This place has been around forever and although not the "high fashion" type of place, it is a good old fashioned barbecue place. Never had a bad meal here.
