This is really not what I was expecting to find when I visited my brother in Texas, but surprises are good. Friesenhaus is a very authentic German restaurant in downtown New Braunfels. Very German menu, very German beers. (I was very excited to find a Kölsch here, which I haven't found before in the States.) Several folks at the bar... More

This restaurant is one of my husband and my favorites. Off the beaten path, excellent food, and even German music on the weekends. The waitresses are even German

I've been there three times in the last 18 months. Food was consistently outstanding. Service is good. Prices aren't bad....and a good beer selection. (Beer/wine is a little pricey). We ordered entres and no dessert...my girlfriend had a house wine and I had two beers....bill including tip was about $65. It's an open hall type setting, not the place for... More

Initally went to this restaurant for breakfast and returned the next day for lunch. On both occassions we were immediately met inside the restaurant and escorted to a table. Waitress at breakfast was friendly and prompt with coffee, which was kept refilled. For lunch we had a different waitress, who was also friendly, prompt, and helpful on lunch selections. For... The food is authentic German food, and much better than most German restaurants we have tried. The food is worth 4+ stars, but don't go here to eat if you want prompt friendly service. I don't think you will get that, unless the place is dead between meal times. My husband and I waited almost 10 minutes for someone to... More

The food continues to deliver - excellent flavor, plated well and at a great temperature - but the service...well, let's say that I've gotten better service from a greasy spoon run by drunks! Waitress took my food order.....but not a drink order. When I finally got her attention (and no - they were NOT busy) and ordered my drink, it... More

Had dinner last night. Ok German food, not too bad. The spaetzle with ham and cheese for an appetizer was very good. The sausage as ok but not anything special. Skip the fried German potatoes. The apple strudel was ok. Not nearly as good as the restaurant it replaced, Krause's.

I love to travel. I have been to some amazing places in the world, however I have yet to make it to Germany. So, with that in mind I can not authenticate this restaurant from first hand knowledge. I can tell you I have never been to a place that made me feel like it was as close to the... More

This is a nice restaurant. Nice atmosphere, nice location and nice food. It isn't outstanding, but it is good - we'll be back.

I was fortunate to live in Germany for several years and thoroughly enjoyed the country, culture, and cuisine. Whenever I'm in New Braunfels I try to eat at the Friesenhaus. It is authentic German food. Their beer selection is outstanding with many German beers on tap. Not everyone enjoys schnitzel and wurst, but if you are among those who do,... More
