Review of the Smoke Stack Restaurant in Mingus TX October 18th 2014 As a volunteer I transport animals for rescue groups all over Texas and central Oklahoma. As a general rule, if there are a number of cars outside of a restaurant, the food is usually good. On this particular Saturday, I was meeting a couple to hand off a... More

Great place of of I-20 just west of Fort Worth. The food and deserts are fantastic. The service was great also. Very friendly folks that make sure you have everything you need. Great value and really good atmosphere being in an historic building for the early 1900's.

Excellent hamburger and fries - well worth the $9 or so. The place was packed, so service was a little slow, which can be expected. Good place to stop between Ft Worth & Abilene for lunch.

We went to Smokestack Restaurant for lunch before touring the W.K.Gordon Museum of Industrial History which is across I 20. We got there at 1:30 on Sunday afternoon, and the place was packed. We had to wait a few minutes for a table, then waited a long time to get our food. The restaurant is in the building of one... More

This is a very neat restaurant to visit. The history is cool, and the decor and surrounding area are interesting. I wasn't terribly impressed with the food. I had liver and onions and it was criminally overcooked. I had almost ordered it without gravy, but I'm glad I didn't; the gravy was the only reason I could swallow it. My... More

Homemade rolls, delicious chicken fried steak, amazing sundaes... what's not to like? The prices are very fair for the amount of food you get. It is rare that I don't end up with a box of leftovers. Celebrated my birthday there and we had about 12-14 people there. Everyone left with a full, happy stomach!

Everything tastes homemade. The pies are scrumptious. Priced fair and a entertaining atmosphere! A must stop for the hungry traveler.

This restaurant has been run by the same family since 1974. At present, the younger generation is in the process of taking over the business. It is located in an old mercantile building. We received a friendly welcome, excellent service, and the salads we ordered (steak with blue cheese & blue cheese dressing) were very tasty. Everything here is quality,... More

Check out the history of Thurber, TX and dine at this adorable cafe that serves wonderful food by friendly people. I've had a lot of country fried steak and this one is the best! Pan fried with with white gravy. It's moist and bursting with flavor. If you are driving by, do not miss. Thanks to the others for posting... More

Have eaten here about 6 times. Not fancy food, nor fancy surroundings. Located in a 100-year old building in "Downtown" Thurber. A historic location in a near-ghost town, former coal mine / brick factory company boom town. Be sure to check out the numerous b & w photos of boom years. Chicken fried steak has a good reputation. I always... More
