Good food in Couiza

We visited this restaurant twice during our stay in nearby Montazels. We were able to walk to the restaurant where the staff were friendly and the food very good. There is a good selection of local wines.

The food was good, but the staff was overwhelmed by our numbers. We visited this restaurant, having made reservations for about 35 people. Already at the first dish, it became clear that the staff hadn't quite understood the challenge they had accepted. It took almost an hour before we had anything to eat. The large baskets of bread sitting on... More

We stopped here for our first visit on the first Friday in January 2015 when many local restaurants are closed post Xmas. We decided to option for the self cook options, "pierrade". Which is a heated stone plate that you use to cook meats on at the table. All the meat, chicken, beef, veal, pork is locally sourced. They also... More

We had a very nice time at this restaurant. The food was good and service really friendly. This restaurant is run by the owners, who were very helpful I trying to help us with the language (we do not speak French). The atmosphere is really nice. We went there twice!

We were desperate to find a place for lunch in Couiza on a Sunday just before Christmas. We were on our way to Rennes-Le Chateau and stumbled upon Le Carnotzet, which seemed to be one of the few places open for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The menu seemed intricate and difficult to understand for non-French speakers, so we chose... More

We were thinking about finding somewhere for lunch when we stumbled across the entrance to Le Carnotzet, checked out the menu, noticed we could dine outside, and headed up the slope hoping to find space. It was just what we wanted. Great to be outside on a hot day, wonderful to watch one amazing woman serving every table and to... More

Had a meal recently after reading the positive reviews and was disappointed. Either we have been spoiled by the other restaurants we have visited or we just had a bad experience. Also agree with previous review in that near the end if the meal they were clearing up around us as we were the last ones there at 9:30pm ????... More

Warm welcome guaranteed. Whenever weather permits, the door is open, and hosts are friendly. They have a cute dog - more like a teddybear. The offering is a nice blend of nearby northern-Spanish, local languedoc, and far-away savoyard kitchen. A very nice terrace for the warm Summer days; a cosy carnotzet interior for other weather. Good wine selection. Bravo to... More

Passing through Couiza on route to home in Villerouge La Cremade from Andorra and found this great place purely by chance. Excellent welcome, and introduced to Blanquette the regional sparkling wine as an aperitif. This 'shampoo' is made in the area and legend has it that Dom Perignon took the recipe back to Reims, so we cannot call it 'shampoo'... More

We had lunch here in the nice courtyard in the sun. My husband had the Menu Du Jour - Rabbit Terrine, Pork Cutlets, and Il de Flottant. Not bad. I had a goats cheese starter, grilled prawns and chocolate fondant. It was all nice and filling. A good wine selection too at reasonable prices. The service was friendly and she... More
