Bill Smith's is a local institution. You don't come here for the ambiance, but the food (especially breakfast) is great. This is what we used to call a greasy spoon--and that's a compliment. Menu items are strictly down home, service is provided by long time servers and the food is basic but great. The decor is strictly 1950s old style... More

Found this cafe while browsing for somewhere different to have breakfast. It is apparently in the top 20 for Dallas area. I can see why. Friendly, warm and welcoming, it is in no way a tourist cafe. Real people eat there, lots of regulars, the waitresses are great and are happy to tell you all about the history of the... More

We googled for a place for breakfast near New Hope, McKinney where we were staying and Bill Smiths came up as one of the top ten breakfasts in Dallas so we decided to give it a go. You walk into an original diner which hasn't really changed since it opened in 1956 - absolutely wonderful. Despite the sign that says... More

Stopped in at Bill Smith's Cafe this past weekend while visiting our son and daughter-in-law that live in Frisco. This is not our first stop or our last. The Papa Smith's breakfast consists of two eggs, sausage or bacon with your choice of pancakes. The blueberry pancakes are the best. More blueberries in two pancakes than you can image. The... More

I have been eating at Bill Smith's for over 20 years. They have real food for real people. The waitresses have been there for years and are a friendly helpful bunch. Bill Smith himself is often working the grill or tidying up. The menu is reasonable and has a good variety of homestyle foods. The catfish is delicious. The coffee... More

One Sunday morning, I was remarking to my husband that it would be nice to find a quick, good, inexpensive unpretentious choice for breakfast after church. Well, we had been driving past Bill Smith's for months and always noticed that it was always busy! We sat at the bar on our first visit to watch the cooking happen. Organized chaos,... More

Hadn't been to Bill Smiths in 10 years. Has to be best value in McKinney or North Texas! Had the old fashion plate lunch with excellent chicken fried steak and three side dishes plus excellent rolls. All for $5.95!

This is the absolutely dirtiest restaurant in Mckinney--just look at health department violations. Food could be good but never served at the right temperature. I used to overlook the dirty and chalk it up to a typical greasy spoon, but roaches crawling up the wall by our table was the last straw. If you want to see for yourself, visit... More

This cafe is a landmark in McKinney. It has been around since the mid 1950's and it looks it. While it is generally clean, it just looks worn out. Many things on the menu are OK. Nothing is great. For several decades smoking was permitted. You had to walk through a smoke filled room to get to the non-smoking room.... More

we go to Bill Smith's on the weekend mostly as a family as we are running errands or after ball games. This is a wonderful place! Not pretentious, just down home southern cooking. They've been open since '56 and you can still see Bill in the ketchen cooking breakfast just for you. The last time we went was the best... More
