Description: It is 1974 when Juan Francisco "Pancho" Ochoa begins his journey...
It is 1974 when Juan Francisco "Pancho" Ochoa begins his journey into the restaurant business. It initiates a wonderful family tradition, with the UNIQUE TASTE of great Mexican food. On January 6th, 1975 Pancho creates "El Pollo Loco" concept in his small hometown of Guasave, located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. In 1980, this concept becomes the first Mexican restaurant chain to go go across the border, opening its first store in Los Angeles, California on Alvarado Ave. and 6th St. Pancho's passion continues in 1986, when he creates a new and innovating concept in Mexican food. On July 1st, 1987 he opens the first "Taco Palenque" with a distinctive quality, UNIQUE TASTE and good service that quickly developed and gained a good reputation throughout South Texas. On July 31st, 2005 Pancho and his son Charles, with the support of their family, open Palenque Grill in Laredo, Texas. The Ochoa family introduce Flerida Ochoa's (Pancho's wife) family recipes, creating a menu with excellent dishes of Mexican culinary traditions. On behalf of the Ochoa family, we thank you for visiting our small piece of Mexico. We are delighted to be able to serve you now in Laredo, McAllen and San Antonio, Texas.

This was my first time to eat at this restaurant. We were in South Texas and figured we needed to try authentic cuisine from this area. The waiter was very efficient and courteous. He answered my questions patiently about some menu items. We were brought some chips and a bowl of salsa and a bowl of frijoles. I thought the... More

This is, apparently, THE place in McAllen, Texas. Loved the atmosphere--and the mariachis! The food was good, but not amazing.

I come to this restaurant every time I come home for the holidays. It's a must. Delicious, fresh Mexican food that is of the same high quality served every time. The ambiance is perfect for birthdays or celebrations. The servers are friendly and very professional. Do try the aguachiles as an entree, my favorite plate!

The food and service are both excellent. The atmosphere and service are very much like fine restaurants in Mexico. So if you are expecting flowery service, you will not receive it. You will receive very unobtrusive service.

When you walk into this restaurant you are already impressed, the decor is really colorful and looks pretty "Mexican". The service was quick and we had a hard time deciding what to order because they have such a varied selection. Chips and chorizo beans were served before the meal and were very tasty. I ordered the sopes and my husband... More

For being rated #12 on Trip Advisor my mom and I figured Palenque would be a very nice place to get some authentic Mexican food. Sadly, we were mistaken. We ordered the fajita platter for 2 that consisted of beef fajitas, chicken and shrimp. The order took no time at all to be delivered (our first clue something was up).... More

We went here for dinner, I was hoping for good Mexican food. I was disappointed with the green enchiladas I had, they were way too salty. My husband had a stuffed poblano pepper aka chile relleno and it too was way too salty the breading was too much and it was super flat pepper. The white rice was okay. The... More
