Big treat. Ate and drank there every night I was in Marfa. Carlos' cocktails are especially good; he has some kind of magic touch. Ate small plate tapasm, mostly, but also some main plates. Very innovative and excellent (sometimes too garlicky). Conversations and contacts are excellent for a town networking art projects. and Cochineal is open EVERY night!

MUST make a reservation. The food is unlike anything around. Fat Lyles for lunch, and Cochineal for dinner. A unique Bar menu features Prickly Pear Juice and is one of the nicer drinking establishments in town. Diner service offers quail, steak, chilaquiles (ORDER THE CHILAQUILES) and the Date Cake. And it's not inexpensive. steak is around $38. and small plates... More

This an absolute must stop if you're traveling in the Marfa - Alpine area. We hadn't been back to the area for 2 years, but were thrilled to get back to Cochineal. It amazes us how busy this place gets. A true gem with the freshest and best prepared food you'll find in the area. It's amazing they pull off... More

A truly memorable meal. This place can hold its own against anyplace in Boston (our home), New York or London. Sophisticated menu, extensive and reasonable wine list. Get the date pudding for dessert. If you are in Marfa, you must eat here.

The artichoke small plate was excellent. The vegan vegetable platter was more tasty and beautifully presented than all but the best vegan restaurants in the country. Must dining in Marfa!

AMONG the best meals I've had in a restaurant - just a matter of how you say it. Cost some shekels but a very good dining experience. It's where you take your Lady unless you want to drive a very long way !!! We live in Marfa.

no mistakes. modest dining area with open galley kitchen; tables are small but they did the job. we were seated near the door-- so we watched the arrivals, their stop at the bar for air-kissing or genuine smoochies; pleasant window into the Marfa art/middle class community socializing. I understand the owners did this before, in Manhattan, and earned a Michein... More

Everything is expensive in the desert: the surprise here is getting food this good (and this consistently good) at all. Yes, it's expensive, and yes, the portions are a bit small, but I dined here several times recently and the food was very good to exceptional every time. The most reliably excellent culinary venue in Marfa. And Toshi's date pudding... More

Food - fabulous! Waiter - attentive, friendly and knowledgeable! Overall ambiance - excellent! Problem.....diners packed too closely together. The indoor dining room is narrow with long bench seating down each wall, then small tables, then chairs in the middle of the room...forming the aisle. Space between tables...about 18 inches. Our table for 2 was flanked by 2 couples on my... More
