In the spring of 2014, my boyfriend and I went to Cochineal and it was amazing--superb service, incredible food and one of the best meals I ever had. Based on my original experience I recommended the restaurant to five friends and we made reservations on Friday, 8/29/14 for dinner. Sadly I was extraordinarily disappointed. The incredible experience and service from... More

Waiter absolutely attentionate and nice, but I have to say: I really didn't like that place! First you have to book, whereas there are about 3-4 places you can eat at night in Marfa! Food is far from awesome, especially for the prices. We took 2 main dishes (1 shrimps, 1 steak), and it was 80$! I had to send... More

The room is intimate but a of Lack of music makes for uncomfortable eavesdropping conversations. Service uneven, ie 1st course plates not removed before Mains arrived, we asked for another glass of wine, and though given heads up on preparation time for sticky date pudding, no reminder given. In addition, my husband had mentioned it was my Birthday when making... More

In keeping with Marfa's reputation for being a bizarre outpost of artsy-fartsy life in far West Texas, Cochineal pulls off pretensions of urban sophistication pretty darn well. The service is slow but friendly and solicitous and the food is expensive but quite good. Nothing special about the atmosphere in what appears to be a residence. They seated us at a... More

Lots of quirky places in Marfa, but this was my favorite from a pure quality and execution perspective. I was a little shocked by the prices, but then it occurs to me that transporting quality ingredients to this location comes with a cost.

We went with a group of 7 and had a delightful experience. The food was amazing! My husband swears it was the best steak he has ever had and he eats steak at almost every place we go. I had the duck and it was cooked to perfection. The rest of the group raved about the chilaquiles (a specialty) and... More

This restaurant is as good as it gets. A beautiful room and superb food and service in a tiny town in Southwest Texas. An absolute must if you are in Marfa. The best food in Marfa...and there are some really good restaurants there.

A wonderful innovative meal, in a beautiful room, with great service. I had heard about Cochineal since it opened, but never was in Marfa at night until last week. As Michelin would say, its not just worth a visit, it's worth a detour. Next time I will spend the night in town to make sure I can enjoy another dinner... More

Cochineal chefs, waitstaff, and bartender never let me down! I am somewhat of a local in the West Texas area so I only get to dine there with friends once, maybe twice a year. We are never disappointed, dis-satisfied, or remotely unhappy. My guests agree with the previous reviews about the food and the unexpected quality! Highly recommend this establishment!

Goof food, kind of high end food in the "middle of nowhere". I wasn't expecting to find a "new york" restaurant in distant marfa, but there it was. Cool, very nicely decorated, calm ambiance. A little pricy, but it is a different restaurant in a remote location. Good wine list (it even had Portuguese wines :) ).
