Awesome

Innovative, fresh and inspiring. A break from the ubiquitous tex-mex. GREAT interior design. A little loud, but nothing that was insurmountable.

We were seated at 6:30 pm in the courtyard since the dining room was not available when we made our reservation earlier in the day. It took some time to get menus, water, and cocktails ordered. While we waited, we were inundated with insects on us, on the table and in our water glasses. Prior to ordering, we informed our... More

The food here was just great. Nothing was less than awesome. Our server, who looked a bit like Freddie Mercury, was fabulous. We wanted to try a lot of things; he was accommodating about us sharing each plate, and in the end, the bill didn't seem that bad for such a good meal. High recommend.

One of the tastiest foods I have ever eaten. I had never had Chilaquilies before but the description on the menu was appealing. I ordered it as is and someone else ordered it with extra jalapeños. We were both very very happy with our meals. I wish I had had a spoon to scrape out the bowl.

First of all, I love Marfa, Texas and the tiny, artsy town it is. This restaurant is set in an old house with a beautiful modern outdoor patio. The food is excellent and the service great! The ambiance is amazing ... very small restaurant so make your reservations. The menu to me has a Mexican/Southwestern flare to it. Please try... More

I had an amazing dining experience here. The cocktails were wonderful and the food was absolutely delicious! We started with the cheesy bread souffle and himalyan salt edamame (very good) and for entrees got the barramundi and the steak - both were to die for. The best part of the entire meal was the date pudding at the end. It... More

Not many places are open for dinner on Monday night in Marfa, but we were thankful this gem was! The outside is almost easy to miss, so you have to look carefully. They have a simple, nice outdoor area, but we opted to eat indoors. The dining area is small, but well designed. Our meal was absolutely delicious and we... More

Didn't necessarily think I'd spend $130 (including tip) for a dinner in Marfa…But a very creative menu and kitchen (though the former pretty limited).

We had a fantastic trout dish with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc in the courtyard. Very good service. Nice vibe. We found the Marfa food 'scene' difficult. In short, nothing was open. Cochineal was a welcome surprise.

We decided to go with several small plates rather than main courses. Each one was inventive and excellent. Cochineal would be a highly-ranked restaurant in most big cities. Wine list was far more diverse than the California-centric selections in most SW restaurants.
