This could be a great place; it has a lovely garden, where we had our dinner. Smoking is allowed outside, so be forewarned, if that bothers you. The menu is quite limited, but mostly well-designed. The fish dish, a Hawaiian fish, was uninspired. The steak was quite good, but overcooked (medium, not medium-rare). The chocolate souffle dessert was very good,... More

Overall the experience of eating at Cochineal was good, but the table choices were limited due to other bookings and a filled dining room. It's recommended that you book early by calling and making a reservation (especially on weekends). Really enjoyed their Texas Wedge Salad with all the fixings. Wish the menu had more vegi choices - they kindly offered... More

Former restaurateurs from NY opened this charming place 7 or 8 years ago. A few years ago they added a bar and a very smart cocktail program. It can be a little hit or miss depending on who’s in the kitchen or behind the bar, but that’s the risk when you operate a business in a tiny town – it’s... More

THis is a great place to eat. We were with a large (18) touring group and most of us found this place to be the best restaurant on our trip . We had fried artichoke hearts, a red beet soup with sour cream and mint, Vietnamese-style chicken with lemon mashed potatoes and a date pudding with rum sauce that makes... More

Traveling solo in Ft. Davis and Marfa and had dinner at the bar at Cochineal. The bartender was very hospitable helping me properly choose my meal and pair their mezcal "Old Fashioned." What a cool restaurant - highly recommend this for a celebratory night out in Marfa.

We were seated at 6:30 pm in the courtyard since the dining room was not available when we made our reservation earlier in the day. It took some time to get menus, water, and cocktails ordered. While we waited, we were inundated with insects on us, on the table and in our water glasses. Prior to ordering, we informed our... More

Innovative, fresh and inspiring. A break from the ubiquitous tex-mex. GREAT interior design. A little loud, but nothing that was insurmountable.

The food here was just great. Nothing was less than awesome. Our server, who looked a bit like Freddie Mercury, was fabulous. We wanted to try a lot of things; he was accommodating about us sharing each plate, and in the end, the bill didn't seem that bad for such a good meal. High recommend.

One of the tastiest foods I have ever eaten. I had never had Chilaquilies before but the description on the menu was appealing. I ordered it as is and someone else ordered it with extra jalapeños. We were both very very happy with our meals. I wish I had had a spoon to scrape out the bowl.
