Superb Restaurant

Hands down the best restaurant between San Antonio and Los Angeles. My wife and I live in a neighboring town and make a 50-mile round trip at least once a week to enjoy dinner there. Cochineal is a hidden jewel in Big Bend Country. Small, with a wonderful staff, and well appointed with good wines and an amazing chef - it's a winner. The cuisine is a sophisticated combination of Asian (Edamame), American (classic wedge salad), Mexican (chicken casserole), Hawaiian (Monchong) and anything else the chef chooses to cook. We were fortunate enough to try... More

The food at Cochineal is good enough to make Marfa a destination all by itself. Our party of four made appreciative noises during the entire meal. I ordered the ribeye as my entrée, which arrived perfectly cooked and just melted in my mouth. If you're anywhere near Marfa and want a spectacular and memorable meal, look no further.

The food was great, the service was great, and the staff was friendly and helpful. It's a great restaurant in a great little town, and was not disappointed.

Amazing Food. Very good service. Very fine dining in a sweet little tucked away corner. Marfa is wonderful and so is this restaurant. I remember everything being excellent with our visit. We will certainly return when we come through Marfa again.

We had a late dinner here after a very long day of travel to Marfa from Boston. Tired and hungry, we cleaned our plates but all three of us agreed that the kitchen was "trying a bit too hard". Each course included a somewhat too exotic sauce or one too many weird vegetables and everything we ordered tasted super salty.... More

This is the "fanciest" place in Marfa for dinner, but we were a little disappointed by the menu. Very expensive. Menu was very limited. I was looking forward to the Chilaquiles "mexican casserole" they have but it wasn't on the menu. We actually left and went to Jetts, which was better for our group. This is a very special ,... World class food in a comfortable atmosphere with great service. One night night had rack of lamb, the other night the chilaquiles. Both were great. Don't miss the chocolate souffle. Extensive collection of wine or beer. You ought to make reservations for the main dining room, there are a few tables for walk-ins in the kitchen, which is actually an... More

Very nice atmosphere with cool design.Delicious quail appetizer & bread tomato soup. Very good inexpensive California wine - $48 2011Dry Creek Sonoma Cabernet. The chilaquiles was the best I've ever had and the perfect moderate serving size for me. BF liked his steak and fries and ate every bite. We rarely get dessert but I highly recommend the chocolate soufflé... More

This could be a great place; it has a lovely garden, where we had our dinner. Smoking is allowed outside, so be forewarned, if that bothers you. The menu is quite limited, but mostly well-designed. The fish dish, a Hawaiian fish, was uninspired. The steak was quite good, but overcooked (medium, not medium-rare). The chocolate souffle dessert was very good,... More
