great soup

My wife and I visited Marfa from Dallas last August and one night we ate at Cochineal. The was great all around, from appetizers to dessert. I was especially blown away by the avocado soup. We told the chef how great and he gave us the recipe. Nice young man and excellent chef. This is a must stop.

The interior is pleasant with sound dampening ceiling design, menu short that assures freshness, with good choices. The food was well prepared. Our waiter could use more information about the menu from the chef. Bar serves food as well.

Made reservations for a Thursday night. Since I was alone was seated at one of the 3 tables adjacent to the kitchen. Not as cute a decor in there as the main dining room and bar, but nice and secluded. Started with tequila old fashioned as a drink. Had never had one before, delicious! I'm a mostly vegetarian so had... More

My coworkers and I had the most amazing meal here while visiting Marfa this past week. I guess their menu is constantly changing, so I'm not sure how helpful my specific food recommendations will be, but the food was ALL unforgettable. That mixed with the great service and the cool ambiance...if you're staying in or near Marfa and love food,... More

I cannot even describe the date pudding because it is so sensual my whole account of it would be obscene. The pate, when it is available, is a dream. I love this place so much I want to marry it.

If I owned this restaurant, I would NOT seat guests across from the food pass, especially where they can watch their orders get picked up by the wrong waiters or not get made at all. Yep, that was us. Our waiter tried really hard but what can you do when there is the C string in the kitchen and other... More

Small and minimalistic decor yet huge when it comes to the delicious food they serve. Customer Service was attentive without being intrusive. We had our New Year's Eve dinner here and the menu was a pre-set 5 course meal. Our friends told me all the dishes were delicious...my only complaint is that it would have been nice if they gave... The Marfa food scene is truly just amazing and Cochineal is a key part of that. We dined there twice in our Marfa weekend, once for dinner and once for Sunday brunch. We loved it both times. For dinner, we arrived pretty late – about 8:30. We didn’t have a reservation and the place was still packed. It obviously gets... More

I ate here twice for dinner during my recent visit to Marfa. As some other reviewers have noted, much of Marfa is effectively shut down during the week, so it was a treat to find this place open. I didn't think it was that hard to find, and upon my arrival it felt a bit as if a trendy part... More

Little hard to find it's an old house with a nice court yard entrance is on the side. We're sat immediately, place is small but quaint. Service was good without being pushy. Started with the quail and prawn soup both were excellent, quail was a little pricey for only 1 piece on the plate. Dinner was the duck which was... More
