Real Mexican food is a feast for the senses. From colorful peppers to the sounds of sizzling fajitas all the way to that incredible flavor. Each mouthful is just as much a result of the freshest ingredients as it is a result of the chef's expertise. Abuelo's offers diners the opportunity to experience real Mexican food, combining authentic, made from scratch classic dishes with the rich, subtle flavors of coastal and interior Mexican cuisine. Our executive Chef Luis Sanchez has spent decades perfecting our menu, and we boast a wide selection of wood-grilled fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, chile rellenos or Abuelo's unique House Specialties (depending on your location). To compliment your meal, our expert bartenders are masters at crafting signature favorites, including a wide variety of margaritas and swirls. Whatever the occasion, we'll stop at nothing to make your time at Abuelo's a memorable dining experience.

A good classic Mexican Food Choice while in Lubbock

Great enchiladas...always busy and crowded, so that must mean something, right? Their different sauces on the enchiladas make it fun to build a great meal.

I used to love Abuelo's years ago when I lived in Abilene. But this location is just ok. The staff is not the best and it's not as clean as you'd like a restaurant to be and the food is way overpriced. Also the restaurant is dark and seems dingy in some areas, especially the back. Every time I go,... More

This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant. When you get here there will be a line, but it moves fast. When you get a table they will bring several sauces out for the chips. If you like hot, ask for the habinaro sauce, they only bring it if you ask. This is not a Tex-Mex place, although they do have... More

If you are looking for a nice dinner out, this restaurant will offer you high quality Mexican food at a reasonable price. Reservations are not accepted, so plan accordingly, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. Save room for dessert. The soapapias are delicious, but ask the server to make sure the honey is warm.

Glad to hear you think the food is consistently good -- thank you. We're sorry we're not able to take reservations, but we're always happy to be prompt and efficient with wait times. Especially on those busy weekends. Hope to see you back for more sopapillas! Best, Brad GM More

This restaurant is huge, which is good because it is popular. The staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful, and the food tastes good.

Recently while on business in Lubbock I had the opportunity to visit Abuelo's and I was very impressed! I was greeted warmly by the hostess and seated immediately. The waitress was also prompt and courteous. Abuelos has cocktails and beers to satisfy everyone. I ordered the "Grande" as it is basically a sampler of about everything and I was thoroughly... More

Great atmosphere and friendly staff make this a great restaurant for family and friends, they even do large groups. Food was excellent and service was too, and the taste of the food was exceptional. We ordered fahitas, enchiladas and quesadillas and they were all tasty. The 3 different salsas brought to our table with the tortilla chips were also delicious.... More

Abuelo's deserves the great reviews. The staff were outstanding and helpful with recommendations from their huge menu. Quality of the food was outstanding. Unlike many Mexican places where portions are enormous these were just right. Great variety of salsas come with the chips. Expect a wait if you show up during prime meal times as Abuelo's is very popular. If... More

Chris, I have to hand it to the staff. They are like no other, and I'm so proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of people. Thanks for saying so. Also, it's good to hear you loved the food -- especially that triage of salsas! See you back soon! Best, Brad GM More

Good luck!!! This place takes NO RESERVATIONS no matter how many in your party Courtney the manager said THE BEST THING TO DO is show up a few hours early and HOPEFULLY they can seat us within 2 hours!!!! 30 people!!! No food is worth that!!! Go somewhere ELSE!!!!

Brad S, Owner at Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy, responded to this review

I am very sorry we weren't able to seat your party of 30 immediately. We don't take reservations, yes, but that's so the whole community is able to enjoy our food and drinks whenever they'd like. We usually don't plan for that large of a group to come in, and we wish there was more we could do for you.... More
