This is a very pleasant surprise in Jefferson. An absolute first class restaurant in an older 1890's restored Victorian home. The entrees are extensive and are prepared in the finest tradition. This restaurant has been featured in Texas Monthly as one of the best restaurants in small towns in Texas. It certainly is one of the best anywhere in East... More

I'm going to keep this short, everything was magnificent. The service, the food, the atmosphere. If you are looking for fine dining in Jefferson this is it.

We have traveled the world and dined in phenomenal restaurants. Our dinner at Stillwater Inn was truly one of the best we have experienced! The owner-chef prepared a masterpiece meal of tender succulent meat and fish, side dishes spiced with an expert's touch, and homemade bread and churned butter. The ambiance is relaxed elegance in a 19th century house, the... More

While staying in Jefferson, we chose this little place to have supper. It was close to where we were staying-walking distance in fact. The ambiance was charming. It had an old house feel to it which I loved. The food was delicious and delivered with impeccable service and timing. Overall, a lovely place.

We arrived for a late dinner around 8:00 PM. We were greeted at the door with a genuine "Glad you're here" attitude. My husband had a delicious tenderloin and I had the pecan crusted trout. Both meals were delicious as was the homemade bread straight out of the oven. The atmosphere was quaint and we enjoyed great service. We will... More

My wife and I went to the Stillwater Inn because our friends insisted it was the best restaurant in Jefferson. If so, the restaurant scene in Jefferson is in deep trouble. It was overpriced, the wait staff was eager but untrained, the food was mediocre. My salad was mixed greens with a chunk of lukewarm goat cheese on top, but... More

Deeply regret the poor wine service you received. Certainly we train our staff better than what you described. Your friends who accompanied you seemed to leave well pleased. Sorry that your first experience at the Stillwater Inn was such a disappointment. The lightly breaded goat cheese preparation is very popular with many costomers. Please feel to ask for a more familiar... More

Sadly we were one of only two couples rattling around in this big old restaurant the night we ate there. The steaks were very good and I should imagine this would be great with a buzzy crowd in. Not cheap, but the quality was there and there are fairly slim pickings in Jefferson.

Thank you for choosing to dine with us. I am glad that you were pleased with your dinner. I realize that part of the fun in going out for dinner is the element of theater. I believe the evening you came was the night before New Years Eve, which may have been part of the reason for the quiet evening.... More

The food and service were good but the value was missing. Scampi shrimp (5) with french fries for $22 is a little out of line. My wife had a small scoop of spinach and sweet potatoes for $10.50. The service level was good. I judge restaurants by, do I want to go back the next night. Stillwater fails my test.

Sorry we did not meet your criteria for a return visit. We post the menu outside the front door with the expectation that our patrons will make informed decisions. Our portions are intended as individual entrées, but some do share an entrée. To hear our servings referred to as scoops, is to associate our restaurant with what one might expect... More

Visited Stillwater Inn on a Friday night at about 6:30 p.m. after a long drive in from Fort Worth. We noticed when we came in that there were was only one other couple in the restaurant but since I'd read good reviews on Trip Advisor I wasn't too concerned. My husband and I both wanted a Sauvignon Blanc wine with... More

Thank you for choosing to dine with us. The 45 minute duration was a bit long, but everything is cooked to order, and the pork tenderloin takes at least 30 minutes to cook, then it should rest a few minutes to allow the juices to redistribute. Inasmuch as you did not have an appetizer or salad, I understand the stomach... More

I can remember our first meal here in 1999. We have been back innumerable times. The food is always fabulous, and the drinks match. The service is impeccable. The owners, Bill and Sharon, are the nicest, most friendly people, and as the evening gets late, they frequently wander about to the different tables to visit. It always feels like you're... More
