You Better Be Starving

Huge portions of southern style home cooking. A few misses now and then but the pot roast po boy and shrimp po boy are consistently good. Love the red beans and rice and the black eyed peas with jalapeno cornbread. The pork chops were rather dry both times I tried them. Avoid Friday lunch... read more

Heard from a friend that this was one of the best places for home cooking. What a disappointment! We started with an order of Cheese Fries which looked amazing from afar, But when we got our order fries were over cooked and cheese was hard and why they use fake bacon bits is beyond me. I ordered the meat loaf... More

We went here after seeing the Texas Highway Magazine rate it as the 4th best chicken fried steak in Texas. The Cfs was definitely delicious and worthy of that title. However, the po boys were not to be missed and now I don't have to drive all the way to Louisiana to get an authentic one! My mother n law... More

Simply good food. Down home cooking the way it's supposed to be. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Gumbo was very good. Chicken and dumpling was very good and plenty served. I liked the okra but also served two other sides that I liked.

Stopped in for a quick dinner after a doc visit in the area. My other half said the place is busy, busy at lunch and very crowded, but dinner time was not busy at all - nice and quiet for the most part. Food was great. I had the fried shrimp platter and found it to be pretty close to... More

Walked in during lunch, place was pretty crowded, but was seated quickly and drink order taken. The service was wonderful, the manager went around to the tables asking if they needed anything and even though it was rather busy, the food came out quickly, correctly and was fresh and tasty.

A friend and I went for an early lunch. We were in town for an annual conference. We were seated right away and the server took our drink orders right away. We ordered, but our server returned and apologized that the wrong oysters were delivered to the restaurant by their supplier and they just discovered it. So I changed my... More

A co worker told me about po Melvin's I decided to try it. I had the gumbo for starters and I was very good. Then I decided I would try the chicken fried steak. The menu claimed it was the best in Texas. I should have know that was wrong. It was ok but defiantly not the best. I would... More
