Tasty but pricey

I usually only come to El Tiempo if it's someone else's idea... not because the food isn't very good, it is, but with as many really amazing Tex Mex places in Houston you can get great food for a little less, or just spring for somewhere amazing and pricey like Hugo's. The fajitas and margaritas... read more

Ate here with friends while in town and found this restaurant simply amazing. The service and the food was outstanding. They told us the wait would be 30 minutes and we got a table in 5 minutes. Most Mexican restaurants do not have the beer that I crave, SOL. This place had it. The menu and food was delicious. I... More

I've had pretty much the gamut here. But the best in the house id either the fajitas or the carne guisada. I'm a carne guisada smob, I guess, and this stuff is top notch. If you go in the evening ask if they have any left from lunch and you might be in luck. Margaritas are potent but good and... More

Great location, staff and food. This is what my idea of good traditional Mexican or TexMex should be. Great décor and the wait staff is so efficient they are almost in the way. The portion for the price was incredible, I left there beyond full for lunch. If I am anywhere near downtown and want Mexican, for me there are... More

The food here is great! The tenderloin fajitas are a must! I love the warm salsa & avocado dip. The margaritas are good; my favorites are the blue & the platinum. (I prefer mine on the rocks.) they have valet parking, which is nice. The only downer is how busy they are, ALWAYS! It's a popular place, so prepare for... More

I'm from out of town and this place is full of locals--always a great sign! Authentic Mexican with lots of flavor and spice! The steak melts in your mouth and the queso is thick and filled with veggies. El Tiempo, you had me with the chips and guac!

Based on TripAdvisor reviews, we went to the Washington St location for lunch. We were blown away by the warm salsa, excellent chips, and most of all, the fabulous fajitas. We are in our 60s, and after a lifetime in Texas these were the best fajitas we've ever had.

El Tiempo Cantina defines the extraordinary flavors and culture of Tex Mex cuisine. The restaurant has been there for many decades. From the tortillas to the salad dressings, the salsas to the desserts, they cook all of our food using generations old family recipes. we were able to order many veg dishes! The Tequila was really good. They give very... More

OMG--the Cantina is one of my FAV and constant "go to" places! Their fajitas are the best! And the margaritas are the best I've tasted...in fact, have to watch it as they do contain a very liberal amount of tequila! Order the house margarita--no need to order fancier more costly drinks. We also enjoy the cannonball which is chicken and... More
