Spanish Village isn't sleek and pretty, but it is real, authentic Tex Mex food. If all you know about Mexican food is fajitas and spinach enchiladas, this probably isn't the place for you (and you probably didn't grow up in Texas). I am a native of South Texas and Spanish Village is what I grew up eating - crispy tacos... More

I have been going to Spanish Village for 15 years, it is authentic old fashion TexMex. Sizzling Fajitas are tasty, cheese enchiladas with real cheese, chalupa a la Bales with their fabulous guacamole in 7 combination. No their hot sauce isn't tomato sauce based, go to New York for that, it is border town style. And yes the margaritas are... More

To be fair I will not rate the meal... or the margarita. All I can rate is my random experience. My wife and I had dinner reservations later at a different restaurant but dropped into Spanish Village, mid afternoon, for a margarita and appetizers. The waitress advised us "That's a problem". She informed us that it was restaurant policy to... More

Great Local Flavor with the best refried beans ever. Plus strong margaritas! You will enjoy the quirky decor, holiday lights and free pralines with your bill. Wonderful service and consistency of food.

We visited this Houston Icon for the first time in a year or so. It is a family owned restaurant that his been in business since the 1950's and it, and the décor/furnishings, don't look to have changed much, if at all, over the years. They have a fairly extensive menu of the standard Mexican fare but what draws us... More

I was SO disappointed when I went to this place 9/14/13 because it was so near my daughter's apartment. Let me count the ways: 1. Service - awful, five people at two tables other than mine. I could not get the attention of the waitress to fill my small water glass. 2. Margarita - tiny, in a martini glass -... More

This restaurant has been Family ran and putting out excellent authentic Tex-Mex food and Great Margaritas since the '60's. My first trip there was in 1978 and I have been coming here ever since. Even when I lived out of town, when I came home to Houston, the first palce I went to eat was Spanish Village! The Medina Family... More

Off the beaten path, but worth finding. This is real Tex-Mex, run by a fine family and warm staff. It is consistently good, and does not profess to do trendy or new things - they do what they do and they do it well. We go back again and again and are never disappointed.

Remember thirty years ago when Mexican food amounted to a menu full of options that basically were beef and cheese coated with chopped iceberg and tiny cuts of tomato? And no matter how many options there are on the menu, each one is just some mix of that combination with different amounts of tortilla and cooking method? If you loved... More
