Gumbo was good, not spicy. Had a lot of celery - I would have liked a bit less. I had not pl;anned to get it but the server offered it to me when he saw I had been waiting for service a while. i was alone & siting at the counter. Had the fried clam basket, All was good in... More

We have been by this restaurant several times in the past but never did stop in. We gave it a try this time... and we were glad we did. This restaurant is 100% seafood, nothing else. They did a very nice job on everything we ordered. Stuffed shrimp and catfish were both extra good. The building itself seems a little... More

We were looking for a seafood place for lunch so I hopped on Trip Advisor. We were staying at the Courtyard by Marriott and wanted a place nearby. I read the reviews about the gumbo and seafood so we decided to try it. Don't be put off by the run down exterior. The scallops and shrimp on skewers are Delicious... More

We stopped in here, because we were staying at the local Courtyard by Mariott, and had read the reviews. I was amazed! The review that indicated to try the Gumbo was spot on! OH MY GOODNESS!! This was an amazing cup of fresh seafood and flavor. It is small - which makes it interesting. The service was spot on! I... More

An inexperienced marketing intern had us in a hotel in a no mans land outside of the normal Houston neighborhood. Wandering around for something to eat that didn't come from Papa (not easy in Houston) we found a bar shaped like a boat. We were early for dinner, it was really closer to Happy Hour time. There were a few... More

This trip was sorely disappointing. "Under new management" is not necessarily a good thing. I remember Capt. Benny, his wife and his son. I also remember the people who worked at the place on Main St. in Houston, Texas. Tonight I had the shrimp basket - it was a big disappointment. There were 9 shrimp (which was the correct number)... They don't come any better than the oysters and gumbo here. Prices are excellent and so is the food. Staff is friendly and remembers you and your guests. Best to sit outside when possible because sitting on the stools at the oyster bar inside places you on a slanting floor and staying put is a bit of a struggle. We... More

When we come to Houston every year during the Houston Livestock & Rodeo and stay nearby at the HI Express & just walk over..we always have to stop at Capt Benny's sometimes twice a day. It is really good seafood at this quaint little bar/hut cafe. They really need a bigger spot because it is packed all the time, so... More

We had shrimp basket and calamari. The calamari was great! Our friends had the captains platter. Everything was great. Right by reliant stadium.

It is a dive of a restaurant but seemed clean for an older building. Prices are decent and the broiler platter was really good. Visiting from out of town and we have been here twice this trip.
