A unique seafood eatery worth trying

Excellent seafood at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is as others have described it -- crowded, loud, a bit confusing when you first enter. It reminds one of a place on the waterfront in some small fishing village where everybody knows each other and is having a good time. Fresh oysters are as... read more

Excellent seafood at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is as others have described it -- crowded, loud, a bit confusing when you first enter. The place was full of people at lunch because is too small. A lot of food residues everywhere, smells like a hell, very expensive for the Texa Mini dish (two small cat fish fillets and 3 medium shrimps). I'll never come back again.

This is one of our favorite places to come for a cold, delicious beer and great seafood! You usually have to wait 10-30 minutes for a seat but once you sit down, the service will come quick! The gumbo is perfect, as is everything...You will walk out of here satisfied.

Both FM 1960 and Katy Freeway locations. May have to stand in line but worth it! Really, it IS worth it. Fried catfish (Double order is my favourite), the GUMBO is amazing. 2nd favourite: Boiled Shrimp so FRESH. OYSTER are so fresh and shucked right in front of you! Very entertaining. The staff are superb. Great team work. The cooks... More

Love the food at Captain Tom's! Has to be some of the best low/average cost seafood in town! The shrimp, flounder and gumbo are to die for! It is very casual and loud and not a place where more than 2-3 people can easily talk given it's layout. The place is always packed so expect to wait and drive around... More

This place is real working man's establishment, shaped like a fishing boat with nothing fancy about it. The place was very full and open seats were loaded with dirty plates from prior diners. Inside there is a main horseshoe bar with single seats where the bartenders and oyster openers huddle and another seat of single seats around the outer perimeter... More

My husband and I have been eating at this facility for years and we LOVE it! The food is consistent and the gumbo is amazing! Fried jalapeños, jalapeño stuffed shrimp and catfish is to die for. I have never had the flounder special but it flies off the shelf when in season! Do yourself a favor, treat yourself to a... More

Different atmosphere than what you are used to. Most like a crowded lunch counter of the 50's NOT gourmet with fancy plates or beautiful displays of international cuisine, But just damn good good for a really good price. Order a dozen oysters and you will always get a plate full, even if it means that you get 15 for the... More

Expect to wait in line at lunch but the seats do turnover quickly. We shared a seafood platter and an order of hush puppies. All good and I look forward to going back.

Almost forgot about Captain Toms until out of town guest want to eat at authentic oyster bar. Went there one evening and he demanded we go back for lunch the next day before he caught a flight home to Ohio. The food is about as fresh as you can get, the atmosphere is about as authentic as you can get.... More
