Description: Established in 1976 In the summer of 1976, Henry "Hank" Zwirek and his buddy, Ed, both native Chicagoans, grew tired of living in the windy city and relocated to Houston. Hank realized the burgeoning city lacked high quality pizza and delivery service (which was a norm in Chicago). Acting on Hank's instincts, the two purchased a quaint two-story house on Norfolk and in October of 1976, a Star (pizza) was born.Business continued to thrive and Hank was eager to expand. In the summer of 1988 a second Star was born, affectionately named Star 2. The offspring of the original was located at 140 S. Heights Blvd. in the building that's now home to Chatter's.The original Star is still located in the house on Norfolk, and continues to offer the same homely atmosphere as it did in 1976. To this day the Zwirek family owns and operates both locations and thanks their loyal Star Pizzanites for their support throughout the years.

I'm in Houston visiting and my family loves this pizza, but gave me this warning: you might throw it in the oven or a pan after it's delivered, because they're made to be eaten on site. I, of course, ignored that and thought 'maybe my family is crazy, because who delivers pizza that has to be cooked once it arrives?'... More

My favorite pizza buffet; get there at 1130am or so and they just keep on bringing out pizzas. Sometimes they do seem to be a little behind demand in the kitchen and you have to wait because there is no pizza and many people; but... its great when it comes out. FYI - they don't put pan pizza on the... More

Awesome pizza and craft beer on the patio. Doesn't get much better than that. Will definitely be back.

Cool place with a laid back vibe. Small and old school feels like someone's house. The pizza is amazing. Best I have has in Houston so far. Focaccia pizza crust is really good not too thin not too thick. My wife and I love this place and the prices are very affordable.

I been going there for years. I love the deep dish or the New York style. Try the salsa verde that's really good unless you hate garlic. This place has the best pizza in Houston .

It's a big state. I realize that. But this is the BEST pizza in Texas...possibly on the planet. I've tried them all, but my favorite is the Starburst deep dish, white crust, extra cheese. It will ruin your life (as in, you'll never want any other pizza).

I have been a customer since the late 80's and this is still one of my favorite places. I always get the same thing. The starburst deep dish with whole wheat crust. Think of it like a 'supreme'. The sausage and pepperoni are hight quality. The green peppers and onions offer a flavorful crunch. The tomato sauce is fresh tasting.... More

A friend of mine took me here and wow!! The pizza was fresh tasting and incredible. Lots of veggies and plenty of sauce. In no way is Star Pizza shy with their ingredients! I thought I've tasted great pizza but I was introduced to probably the best pizza ever. The servings are huge, the "dinner " salad could be a... More

I guess I have just been spoiled with great pizza in my home town of Dallas as well in my travels, but Star Pizza isn't even average, it's crappy! There isn't really anything i can say nice about the place other than our attentive server. Covering in copious amounts of greasy cheese, probably about 1/2 thick, you could barely cut... More
