Established in 1976 In the summer of 1976, Henry "Hank" Zwirek and his buddy, Ed, both native Chicagoans, grew tired of living in the windy city and relocated to Houston. Hank realized the burgeoning city lacked high quality pizza and delivery service (which was a norm in Chicago). Acting on Hank's instincts, the two purchased a quaint two-story house on Norfolk and in October of 1976, a Star (pizza) was born.Business continued to thrive and Hank was eager to expand. In the summer of 1988 a second Star was born, affectionately named Star 2. The offspring of the original was located at 140 S. Heights Blvd. in the building that's now home to Chatter's.The original Star is still located in the house on Norfolk, and continues to offer the same homely atmosphere as it did in 1976. To this day the Zwirek family owns and operates both locations and thanks their loyal Star Pizzanites for their support throughout the years.

Great Pizza

The Pizza here is Great! Cooked to perfection and the ingredients are fresh and the cheese is real! The service was good. My only downfall to this place is its dated! They could use a little jazz up. the tables are kind of small and the chairs are huge. 2 chairs next to each other and you are... read more

Growing up in Chicago, my taste for pizza is thick crusted memories of Geno's and Uno's. Well, I don't have to travel 1,800 miles for my weekly pizza fix. OK, every other week. Every time I am there for lunch I see dozens of folks lined up for the buffet, but I don't mind the wait for my small deep... More

Love this mom and pop and its humble beginnings. Really cool building and atmosphere. The Marilyn is my favorite. The veggie is great too, they don't skimp on it.

Have tried all the other pizza places in Houston--Star is the best by far! Great laid back environment (especially upstairs), fantastic wait staff and very cold beer.

We ordered pizza from here because my cousins said it was the "best pizza" in Houston. Since they are both northerners, I figured they knew what they were talking about. Not to be disappointed! We had sausage and green peppers on one pizza and mushrooms and olives on a second one. Both were gobbled up quickly by five individuals....so I... More

We were seated quickly and sat upstairs. Service was a little slow, but it was worth the wait for the awesome pizza. A large pizza feeds a family of four with left overs. Delicious!

Order four pies for the office staff. Delivered promptly and hot. After that, it went downhill fast. Margarita had no basil and there was absolutely nothing on the pie that had any flavor at all. Vegetarian pizza was marginally better. Without the use of lots of crushed red pepper, there would have been nothing good to say about it. Even... More

Delicious pizza joint. Long wait for your food but that's because everything is done fresh. They actually have a sign on the table letting you know it will take a little longer.

Nothing fancy but certainly quirky with a lot of character. Patrons were locals and pizza was great! We left my daughter's sweater at the table and a staff member went out of his way to chase us down in the parking lot and get it to us...we were very grateful! Would definitely return!!!

We were taken here by a friend and it lived up to his billing. The pizza was great as evidenced by the fact that 3 of us finished a large. We were there on a Friday night and were glad we arrived when we did as they were quite busy, but still the service was good. If I return to... More
