In case you are wondering about the name of the place...

I've seen a couple reviews noting that the restaurant's name is strange... I'm pretty sure it is a reference to the Spanish moss that is (hopefully still) prevalent in the bayous of Louisiana where much of their menu originated. Spanish moss hangs like ZZ Top's beards from incredible cypress huge... read more

Cafeteria style Cajun food - very popular which means long lines and a but cramped seating. But the cleaning crews are efficient meaning tables turn over often and remarkably seating becomes available - just in time. Don't be intimidated by the crowds or you'll miss some wonderful gumbo or jambalaya - chicken, seafood, sausage, red beans and rice - warm... More

The tunnel location is very convenient for a quick business lunch that is fresh and served fast. The catering is also fantastic and great value for the quality of food served. Red Beans and Rice are not to be missed while the special of the day (chicken fried chicken when I last went) is usually also great.

Treebeards is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always well prepared and delicious. You can't go wrong with the Red Beans and Rice. The Chicken Fried Chicken is always awesome especially with mashed potatoes. In the winter, the Chicken Dumplings will warm your insides. If you want something light, they have a great spinach salad. The regular salad... More

I was visiting family in Houston and they recommended Treebeards in The Tunnel for good Cajun food, although they were not sure if they had gluten-free options. (I'm allergic to gluten) My sister in-law researched their food online and decided that I could probably have their red beans and rice. We patiently waited to the side of the line until... More

Tucked away in the corner of the tunnel is Treebeards....it has excellent food but can get very crowded with the weekday business crowd. They have a lot of weekday specials and you can call in your order for pickup at the window.

This is the To-Go Cajun place for lunch in downtown. It's close to my company and the food is really good. I never had Cajun food before I moved to Houston, but the Treebeard Chicken Sausage Gumbo is my first impression of Cajun food. And it was GREAT! The bread, which is free, is like the best French toast ever.... More

I've heard of Treebeards forever. But all I ever heard was the red beans and rice. Well that doesn't appeal to me. What I didn't know is all the other good stuff they have. We ended up going there for lunch with co-workers one day. I had the Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. They had... More

Definitely a popular place for lunch for a variety of people in downtown Houston. The lunch was filling, but did not have a lot of flavor (chicken fried chicken, mac and cheese, spinach salad). The salad was probably the best - good and fresh. The line did move quickly, so don't be afraid of taking a long lunch by eating... More

My coworkers and I visit Treebeards for lunch when we get a chance. The food is always good. I order the Shrimp Etouffe, which I always find delicious. My coworkers ordered the chicken fried chicken, and the red beans and rice. The butter cake for desert is super rich and super good. Always a good choice for lunch!
