Splendid Regional Mexican Cuisine - nothing like any other Mexican food in Texas!!!

Great Regional Mexican cuisine (neither TexMex nor traditional Mexican) at its best: dishes prepared in a variety of way, and cooked with an array of regional spices and peppers; and perfectly executed. We have been to Hugo's several times. Most recently a couple of weeks ago for lunch. What a great restaurant. If you want Tex-Mex or even Mexican street food this is not your place. This is a true winner. The flavors of each dish are well defined and the options are great. I highly recommend Hugos.

Everyone told me the only thing to eat in Houston was TexMex, so since I was on an expense account I was looking for something a little more elevated, and Hugo's fit the bill. I went for a late lunch, and the restaurant was pretty quiet. Service was excellent, and the food was on point. I had the Taquito De... More

We arrived about 8:00 without reservation, and were seated immediately. We had decided to try some upscale Mexican cuisine. We we not disappointed! The menu is very eclectic, not only is there the standard beef, pork, chicken and fish dishes, but there is goat, rabbit, duck, beef cheeks, tuna and grasshoppers, all prepared with lovely accompaniments. We started with a... More

Hugo's isn't your typical kitschy Tex Mex restaurant. It's a little more upscale while still being casual and fun. There were several vegetarian options, which is unusual for Houston. My husband enjoyed his vegetarian Chile Rellano. I enjoyed a ceviche dish trio. I was disappointed that it was three types of fish with the same preparation for all. I was... More

Just start off we went for brunch on Sunday and if you don't have a reservation it will be a wait well worth waiting for. Me and my girlfriend had the buffet that has so many choices to choose from that we didn't know where to start. I will be back

Hugo's has traditional Mexican Fare, not Tex Mex. Great Atmosphere, good service. For my clients I would have liked more options for seafood. Overall a good experience.

I took my wife here on a romantic special-occasion date, on the repeated recommendation of trusted individuals. First, be aware, that you must valet park your car. Sidebar: If you are not a huge fan of valet (I'm not), you just need to be aware-of and expecting it, and of course have cash for a tip. I was given confidence... More

very unusual experience. sketchy neighborhood but free valet parking. food presentation and quality were excellent. not a typical Mexican dining experience. much more upscale. downside is most of the menu is in Spanish. no English option. they offer to help with menu but I don't want a recital but rather a menu written in the language most commonly practiced in... I have tried to get into Hugo's a number of times for dinner but the reservations were always fully booked. Now, I know why. My wife and I had a wonderful lunch of Ceviche Tradicional (fresh Red Snapper, avocado, tomatoes, radish and lime) followed by Chilaquiles and Huevos Rancheros. Both dishes were outstanding. The Gran Repasado margaritas added to our... More
