Very impressed with our meal here. Our waitress pointed out and recommended various dishes on the menu to us and it seems that everything is based on authentic Mexican recipes so this was (and is) the real deal. I went for the day's special which was a pork shank, cooked slowly for several hours. The meat just melted in the... More

Located among an area of tattoo parlors and an armed laundromat, this is truly a neighborhood gem. A beautiful building, friendly attentive wait staff and some tasty authentic Mexican food made it worth the drive. Save yourself the parking hassle and cough up a few bucks for the valet parking.

I thought this was outstanding Mexican food , as good as any thing I have had in Mexico City. Had the seafood tamales, scrumptious. The deep fried grasshoppers were a dusty crunch; but they had to be tried after all they say insects will be the next great food group for the west when the cattle get armed and revolt.... More

This is our to-go restaurant for Sunday brunch. We have not eaten here from their regular menu, and it appeared pricy for Mexican food. BUT, the brunch buffet is exceptional! The vast variety of food is beyond description and much more than your typical Mexican fare.

The noise level is extremely high due to the place being full and lots of hard surfaces. The service was good but seemed rushed. My feeling was that the game was to turn the tables as fast as possible. The food was really good and very authentic. The only food disappointment was the guacamole which was OK but not outstanding... More

Stopped here after a concert for dessert. Didn't seem too busy but service was slow. The chocolate ice cream and churros with chocolate were delicious but portion seemed small. Maybe if I had just eaten dinner it would have been sufficient.

We (2 business colleagues and I) had a reservation but arrived 30vminutes early. but the Maitre d' did not seat us for almost an hour! Wonder what a reservation means as walk ins get to sit in 45 minutes too! The attitude of the maitre d' was unacceptable. Regretably many of the other customers seem to have had the same... More

Went to Hugos on a Wednesday night at 8pm, the place was packed. 45 min wiat for a table. Service was great, the decor is very cool. We ordered 4 starters, and one main to share, and a dessert. Would recommend - great place for a business dineer - or to bring out of town guests. Definitely book though.

During our trip to Texas we wanted to try an upscale version of Mexican food and we were not disappointed by Hugo's. The atmosphere is charming and the menu is impressive. They offer a lunch menu but we were also able to order off the regular menu. There were a variety of tapas ( I ordered the grasshoppers) and many... More

When travelling I like to find authentic regional food. Hugo's in Houston takes thier inspiration from slightly south of the border by producing authentic and tasty Mexican food. If any of you have taken on cooking Mexican specialties, you will fully apprecaite what these folks are doing, they take on some so the most difficult and delicious Mexican regional quisines... More
