Still A Winner!

The Black Lab is a wonderful English pub experience in the heart of Texas. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. The pub offers both indoor and outdoor seating and is lovely for a chilly day by the fire inside or an evening on the patio when the weather is nice. The bar offers a wide range... read more

The Pub is terrific - and a slice of Merrie Olde England here in Bayou Country. But the food is mediocre and bland. I went to a party in the Cezanne room. Just passable food. Go for the Pub and some Pub fare, but don't go for dinner - your time and money are better spent elsewhere. Unimaginitive, staid food.

When you go to a restaurant for the first time, even armed with reviews from Trip Advisor, you can't be sure what you are in for. We went to the Black Lab to have lunch with friends on a Thursday. I doubt there were more than eight tables occupied. It is a pleasant setting. I don't know squat about the... More

We've been going to the Black Lab for 6 years and plan to keep going for the next 6. But we'll be careful about what we order. We recently tried the evening's special, a Reuben. We didn't get a Reuben. We got a sliced beef sandwich, dry except for some sauerkraut. The beef was tasty, the sauerkraut was OK, but... More

Black Labrador Pub is located on Montrose with St. Thomas University immediately to its west. Interesting mix of university students and Montrose neighborhood people. Food is "English pub." A little pricey, food is okay but not great. Lovely outside area beneath wonderful spreading oak trees that shade the herringbone brick paved parking area. Lots of english ivy growing up the... I've been to a number of Pubs in the UK and this is as close to a proper pub as I've seen in the US. Not a bar a pub, so no TV's and blaring music drowning out conversation. We went in to visit with some friends and it was a cold and rainy kind of day (just like England)... More

Having visited quite a few pubs in the UK - I can say the decor is spot on, the atmosphere is nice- I have had the fish and chips and the shepherds pie - It has always been very good on my visits (other reviews said otherwise). They carry an actual DRY cider which is my drink of choice if... More

Drove in from Galveston today for lunch after hearing great recommendations from my coworkers. Had never been before. Got there at 1130am. Not many people there when we first sat down however when we left there were few, if any tables empty. The food, service and atmosphere were all GREAT. It was a foggy and rainy day - perfect day... A classic and beautiful pub setting. Guinness on draft, or other beer in bottles. The fish-and-chips were pretty good; others in the party ate a variety of other menu items - no one raved.
