Interesting Take on Sushi -- Tasty but Different

My wife is obsessed with this place and, as some of the other reviewers have mentioned, Uchi is the new trendy (maybe not quite new anymore at the time of this writing) sushi place. They have good ambience and a trendy looking, yuppy-ish, young professional crowd. I'm not a foody but I'd describe... read more

We went to Uchi right when they opened at 5pm on a Wednesday for a birthday happy hour. If you can get there about 5-10 minutes before, do so as there is already a line to get in! I snagged a few chairs at the bar and started with one of they hh cocktails (kara kyuri) which was good. When... More

My son has been raving about this place for a year and my wife and I finally had the opportunity to dine there. First, we made reservations, which seems simple enough, but apparently many fail to do then are sour because of the long delay. Hello? When you dine at Uchi, consistently rated as one of the top 5 restaurants... More

I have to say that I now have tried the gambit of sushi in Austin, Houston, Dallas, NYC and LA. Everything from Grocery store, Mom and Pop, Mid-level and the crème de la crème. (so they claim) Uchi - Houston's claim to the best of the best. The place was packed. Good sign right? Ok, I can go with that.... More

We always seem to go here when we're celebrating anniversaries and birthdays, but we make reservations, go early and get great attention. Tasting menu's quite reasonable and the whole experience is both fun and delicious!

The sushi was good. Not excellent. If you have been to the Uchi in Austin, you know they do EXCELLENT sushi. I feel like this sushi restaurant was trying too hard to appeal to "Texans" offering way too many meat/steak options. They also don't offer all the same item as the one in Austin. Different menu and pretentious. Austin is... More

We ate here twice. The first time was very tasty and inventive. The second time, the service was rushed and the food was gloppy. Kids with their parents' money to spend will like the food if they drink enough first. Adults with refined palates should go somewhere else.

I was told how great this place was and decided to give it a try. They have a huge variety of sushi and appetizer with many different pairings of wines or if you prefer Japanese beer. The food was great but the wait to be seated was ridiculously long.......... If you decide to venture here make reservations and still expect... More

I wish I could eat at Uchi everyday. We tried many items in the menu and EVERY one of them was incredible. The Brussels sprouts, fish, everything was fresh, and flavorful...they must cook with drugs, because this place is addictive!!!

The fish is delicious but what puzzles me is that Uchi limits its chefs to the "recipe" dishes. For example, we have followed Chef Alli from one restaurant to the next in Houston. He is the reason we visited Uchi. That said, for Omakase or any other ordering the chefs are only allowed to make the pre-selected items; they are... More
