How do we describe Peli Peli? In one word, FLAVOR! Peli Peli (also known as Piri Piri or Peri Peri), which means Bird's-Eye Chili, is a spice that was discovered by the Portuguese in the 15th Century on the plains of Southern Africa. The spice rapidly became popular when used to prepare sauces and marinades for chicken and seafood cuisine. Peli Peli's cuisine, known as South African Fusion, features authentic South African delicacies along with American steak, chicken and seafood favorites that are prepared in Chef Paul Friedman's South African style. This style includes marinades, seasonings and spices used in South African cuisine with Dutch, Portuguese and Asian influences. In addition to this amazing blend of innovative cuisine, guests entering Peli Peli will embark on a journey that will capture their heart, soul and belly and enjoy a culinary experience that they have never had before.

Overall good experience

My husband and I were there on a Saturday night, we had a 6:15 reservation because 7 was not available, we figured earlier would be better and I was glad we chose this slot. I don’t spend a lot of time in Houston, maybe once a year, so I cannot compare this place to other top restaurants in the city but, based on my meal last night, it’s #1 ranking is probably well earned. There is no way I can say enough good things about this place. Beautiful interior to start with; high vaulted... More

very nice ambience with a welcoming "acacia tree" in the middle of main room. Staff was very polite, gentle and knowledgeable of the menu. The bobotie appetizer has not to be missed. Te ribeye steak was perfectly cooked, juicy and uniquely flavorful. The pinotage wine was a pleasant surprise. They do offer many glute free options.

We have been to Peli Peli on several different occasions and have found the foor to be fantastic as well as the service. I highly recommend the steak skewer that hangs on a stand over your plate (can't remember the exact name). Something like espatada. The meat is so tender and the tastes and sides can't be beat. This is... More

From the time me and my wife walked in the door we were greeted with friendly faces and attitudes. Sarah our server was absolutely amazing. She had a very even mix of comedic relief and family friendly attitude. She is very knowledgable about all the menu items and isn't afraid to share her opinion when asked! The food is simply... A feature of this restaurant is the provision of South African fare and excellent wines wines from the Cape. American food is also available. This was my third visit here and each time the experience was very satisfying indeed. The location is about ten miles from where I live but well worth the commute.

There’s a reason Peli Peli is so highly rated by TripAdvisor and critics alike. It offers delicious and fabulously unique cuisine in a beautiful and elegant dining room. We went for dinner on Valentine’s Day, driving nearly 50 miles from south of Houston to get there. Needless to say, it was well-worth the trip. The seafood-stuff mushroom appetizer was one... More

Celebrated my sister's birthday with our mother and a few friends. A wonderful Friday evening. The food was excellent, desserts were to die for, and customer service was superior! Our server Sarah Kim was attentive, knowledgeable, and fun. We even had champagne for a toast! Entire staff was professional and personable!

Offering variations on traditional steak and seafood dishes, Peli Peli makes for an interesting change. What is important though is the high level of service, which meant that our ‘Culinary Tour Guide’ was more than happy to explain the dishes thoroughly and answer every question with good information. This is important if, like us, you are slightly fussy and want... More
