Three decades and two generations of experience and passion go into every smiling face and mouth-watering bite that make-up El Chaparral. Our family history is etched into everything we do. In 1972, our parents, Charlie and Mary Garcia, followed their dream to a small eatery in Helotes, Texas.

Yes, to say some place is friendly in Texas seems rather obvious - everyone's friendly around San Antonio. However our server sincerely and politely helped us navigate the menu and the kitchens favorites. It was our first time here and we'll be back! Possibly sitting outside on the margarita patio - its very (very) alluring.

This is one of our usual Saturday Lunch spots. Our son was in from Austin so we had lunch there on Monday the 20th of July. As usual we were seated promptly, we usually eat around 1:30 or 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. The chips and waters came right away, the waiter was somewhat busy and it took him awhile... More

Always great to see you guys! I'm so glad our chicken enchiladas and corn salad have earned us a place on your regular lunch rotation, and I really appreciate your family's continued support. Can't wait to see you next Saturday (we'll do our best to be a little quicker then). Sincerely, Carlos Owner More

The food is average, and is very salty unless you like alot of salt on your food. The service was also average. There are other mexican restaurants in the area that serve better mexican food.

Sorry you weren't impressed with your latest visit. Average is the last thing we'd like to be, and while I can't be sure what went wrong with your meal or your service this time, it does sound like we could have stepped up our game. I appreciate your candid feedback, and I hope you'll give us another chance to knock... More

My wife and I tried this place for lunch based on a friend's recommendation. I not a big fan of Mexican food but was willing to try it out. I was very glad I did. First, I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was laid out in a very welcoming manner. The people were all very friendly. My wife... More

Thanks for giving us a shot! I understand Mexican food isn't everyone's thing, but I consider it a great compliment that our fajita nachos and chicken enchiladas were able to impress you anyway. I can't wait to hear your thoughts about the rest of our menu! Till next time, Carlos Owner More

Each and every time a family member dines without me, their experience is perfect, Decided to drive 26 miles each way to dine on a weeknight while taking care of our 5-year old grandson. Upon arrival we are advised 15-20 minute wait which is stretching bedtime for the little guy. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally asked about... More

Thanks for making the trip for us! Sorry we weren't able to seat you and your grandson as quickly as you would have liked -- please believe that no matter the crowd, we do care very much about each individual's experience, and I apologize for the delay. That said, the fact is that crowds are bound to happen on a... More

We visited as a family of six since I had out-of-town guests that enjoy going here and hadn't been for years. Guess I should have mentioned to them that not as used to be but thought maybe this time would prove me wrong. But regretfully I was proven right. We arrived around 5:30 on a Monday so initially not busy... More

Please accept my apologies for this experience. It sounds like there was a lot of confusion on the floor when you visited, and I apologize for putting you through that -- we felt confident that your second server would be able to attend you as well as the first, but I certainly understand your frustration. We'll work hard to keep... More

Sorry our service left something to be desired this time, Joe. Spills definitely aren't something we want to keep waiting, so we'll be sure to take care of messes more quickly next time. I appreciate you letting me know about this oversight, and I hope you'll give us another chance to prove that our service is normally just as impressive... More

Great place for fast service and good mexican food. Even when it appears the "parking lot" is full, there are plenty of tables available inside for dining.

Thanks for checking in with us, Cynthia! We do our best with the parking lot space we have, but of course, it's the seating that counts -- I hope to see you back at one of our tables very soon! All the best, Carlos Owner More

This place used to be a good, small restaurant way out of town (San Antonio). The food was the real deal and the decor was genuine and honest. Now it is a good, big restaurant not too far on the outskirts of town -- fortunately with the same genuine and honest ambiance. That's really why you go here - the... More

Have eaten there many times and try to avoid the normal dining hours and go between lunch and dinner. Gets very crowded. Everything I have had there has been very good but I especially love their pinto bean soup. Haven't found any like it elsewhere. There enchiladas are all very good and guacamole is great. Service has always been good... More

Our pinto bean soup is one of a kind! I'm glad it's one of your favorites -- that goes for our enchiladas, too. I can't thank you enough for your kind words about our service and scenery, and I look forward to seeing you for your next Mexican fix! All the best, Carlos Owner More
