This is the oldest restaurant in Galveston and located in a neighborhood on the east side of Galveston not far from the cruise docks. It's located on a corner with only street parking available. Definitely a fun, good place to stop at for a sandwich, soup or hamburger--or cold beer to watch a game. I opted for the half muffaletta,... More

I visit this place every time I go to Galveston. Last Friday, when I visited, it was a little sad, it was the anniversary of the owner's son's death. The place isn't the same without Larry. You would never know the place was packed inside, because we got a parking space right out front. The outside is not much to... More

After reading the positive reviews, we were looking forward to lunch at Sonny's. It was Friday so we each got a cup of gumbo. It was very good with plenty of shrimp. We also both ordered a cheeseburger and fries to share. First may I say that I am a burger lover and it honestly was one of the worst... More

Don't let the outside of the old building fool you. You had better come in size. Food is awesome and Sonny is a cut up. He has worked here for 61 years and is also worth the trip. bread on the muffaletta is great, you can pay extra to have it toasted, but not worth it to me. half a... More

Located in the ground level of an old house in the downtown area of Galveston, Sonny's has been serving excellent bar-type food for many years. Self described as the oldest bar and restaurant in Galveston. Sonny has passed, but Junior rules the roost, guards the cash register, and talks to everyone. Best known for their varied hamburgers, other menu items... More

After many, many tears of accepting only cash and checks, Sonny's has moved into the 21st Century and is now accepting credit & debit cards. Same great food and service, same great location.

Was directed to this restaurant after reading a feature about it in a local magazine. One has to be intrigued with any establishment that has been successful for 44 years! By chance we met Sonny and was delighted with his humble, friendly hospitality. Don't miss the chili as his mother's recipe has been tweaked to sheer perfection. Also try the... More

We went here in 2013 during spring break, and it is one of the most unforgettably good restaurant experiences we have had. I had Gumbo for take out first, which was great. We went for dinner with our teen kids, and thoroughly enjoyed our food and evening there. We ordered a lot off the menu. Standouts were the: The oysters... More
