Pretty authentic Tex Mex with large menu located close to The Strand in an old house. Have tried the Trio fajitas, enchilada verde and chimichanga, all were good. Only negative was having made a reservation for a large table and still having to wait almost 30 minutes for them to set up tables on a non busy Monday night.

This is one of the best Mexican Restaurants we have been to. I am a lover of enchiladas and this place has the best I have eaten in several years. Our server (a male with a first name starting with the letter A) took 8 orders without notes and delivered them to the right person. He was fantastic!

As we winter in Galveston, it is a long wait between visits. Things can change. Great for us, they didn't. Lunch specials are a thing of beauty. Stop in and check it out.

While in Galveston, a friend and former Chef convinced me to try The Original Mexican Cafe which advertises its history as going back to 1916. Traditional basket of tortilla chips with salsa brought to the table while you try to decide from a fairly extensive menu of offerings, what to choose. We went with the Trio Fajitas for two and... I went here with family members on New Years Eve. We were finishing up an afternoon and evening at Moody Gardens. This is an off the beaten path restaurant, and the food is very good. It is close to UTMB. Our server never let a glass get empty and he had some nice advice on both food and drinks that... More

I'm supposed to keep this a secret because it is the best food on the island, but we don't want it to fill up with tourists. lol. The food is amazing. I get Enchiladas made in flour tortillas. The Chicken Enchiladas with Sour Cream Sauce are divine. The Cheese Enchiladas with Queso are amazing too. You will get VERY full.... More

Felt authentic when I walked in. Greeted by our friendly waiter who then brought us Margaritas that were very good along with happy hours prices. The food was warm and tasty. We'll stop in again and next time and will most definetly try the pralines.

Was excited to try this rather well-hyped Mexican restaurant. Lisa ordered the mixed enchiladas and I got the mixed fajitas. I though it was interesting that while most enchilada plates included rice and beans (fairly standard in Mexican restaurants) Lisa's plate explicitly excluded them. Also strange was that sour cream and cheese were a $3 up charge with my fajitas... More

We are in Galveston from Prescott Valley, Arizona for my nephew's graduation from Texas A&M University. We had family members from several states in attendance and would be here for a total of two weeks. Eating out is inevitable. And of course we wanted places that could accommodate our group of 12 or more. This time we turned to the... More

I was a frequent customer and was always pleased with the food or service for breakfast, lunch or dinner. However, the last 2 times I have attempted to eat there, that is what it has been....an attempt! The service is lousy and slow. Waiters from the other room had to refill drinks and bring food because they only had one... More

Ms. Julie, thank you for your feedback. I'm honestly horrified. I have no excuse for the service and quality of food you received, but can promise you this...it will NOT happen again. I am afraid you're assessment of the situation may be correct...during the summer months we are so.busy, the staff has no.time to sit, when the slower winter months... More
