Ok, but not Gringos

This is my 3rd time here and each time the food is ok, but nothing to write home about. It's a little on the pricey side for tex-mex if you ask me. There isn't much else in Galveston that isn't a chain though and most places are on the high side and touristy. At least this place isn't touristy... read more

Nothing special about this place. Just ordinary Mexican restaurant that you could get at any other Mexican restaurant. My husband really liked the chicken chimichanga.

Visiting for spring break. Baha tacos, steak nachos and best bean dip with chips. Food was so delicious. Local favorite - would recommend highly to those visiting Galveston!

Since 1986 we have been coming to Mardi Gras in Galveston and although this isn't its "original" location it never fails to meet the needs of a hungover Mardi Gras Krewe. Their Mexican breakfast is top notch and soaks up all the booze and funnel cakes. Of course, hair of the dog, top shelf Ritas don't hurt either. Thanks for... More

The last time we were at The Original, the service left a lot to be desired, but we thought we would give it another try. Unfortunately, the experience was worst than the last time. Mind you, we were there at 5:00 on a Wednesday so they really weren't busy, but by the time we got our margaritas the crowd had... More

I am not sure what to say...I am sorry and embarrassed for he service you received and the way your food was prepared. Due to Galveston being a mostly seasonal area we try to staff accordingly, my guess is you had someone who we are trying to train for the busy summer months. Again, my sincerest apologies and I will... More

The salsa is really unique and the queso is great. We read the reviews and were not disappointed. A place locals eat.

My boyfriend and I love Mexican food and this place was rated as one of the best places on the island, so we definitely had to check it out. We went on a week night and the place had a decent crowd. We both ordered different types of soft-shell tacos and were not disappointed. The portion size left enough for... More

Spent the weekend with some friends and stopped for lunch. The salsa and bean dip with the chips was great. Ordered the 1/2 beef quesadilla dinner. It was like a Philly Cheese steak quesadilla, about an inch thick! I would absolutely recommend it to anyone! I eat Mexican cuisine quite often and it is one of the best I've ever... More

People who like large portions will love this place while people who prefer to judge a place based on flavors will consider it fair. Service is fast and the food is consistently good but not great. There are a few other places in Galveston with tastier choices, but as for location and hours open ( 7 days a week), this... More

The Good - It was Mardi Gras and we got a reservation easily The Bad - Maybe the ease of getting the Res should have tipped us off The Scoop - My host really built this place up as the place to be for Mexican. We had 8 in the party and passed around food. None of it was really... More
