Description: It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game. Giovanni always dreamed of being a professional fisherman, so he decided to give it a shot and made the drive to Galveston. After battles of sea sickness, Giovanni quickly decided that the fish business wasn’t for him.Heartbroken, Giovanni was about to move back to New Jersey when he met Mario Bonaccorso who was trying to open a pizzeria. The two became great friends, and together, these two young Italian entrepreneurs started Mario’s Flying Pizza and brought the “pizza pie” to Galveston Island.Today, we are still family owned and operated and are considered a delightful, neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We serve a wide variety of Italian cuisine and New York style pizza and strive to use fresh, seasonal, ingredients wherever possible, so come on in, sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a nice glass of wine at Mario’s Ristorante!

We wanted a pizza and decided to try this restaurant. Everyone was friendly when we entered and the atmosphere was very Italian. Brendon, our waiter, was excellent and patient as we couldn't decide what pizza to order or what size. Fortunately we chose the large with everything which was delicious! We ended up taking 1/2 of it with us for... More

The garlic bread was probably the best thing we ordered. The chicken Parmesan was very good. I had the chef make it with marinara instead of cream sauce. It was actually very good. The spaghetti with meat sauce was not as good as the marinara. The waiter was very friendly and enthusiastic about the island.

Was glad to see sliced Italian beef with green bell peppers and mushrooms in brown gravy along with pizza, pasta and salad!

We've been here on two visits to Galveston. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is great. Highly recommend the seafood stuffed mushroom appetizer, the shrimp diavolo, spaghetti & meatballs...I could go on! Oh, the chocolate eruption cake is divine.

staying far away without transport in a resort, ordered extra large pizzas, buffalo wings and salad. Can't complain about any of it. Crusts magnificent and they all tasted great in the oven two days later. Pricey, but we ate the hugest pizza, one meat - with lots of different meats and thin salami ( not like the ham stuff Aussies... More

This is OK. Salad was fine which we shared as about 8 bucks. Margarita pizza OK but would not get again. Daughter got half order chicken alfredo which she liked but she is 10 so OK. Just seemed to cost more than I would have guessed and nothing special about the ambience . So...... OK

My family visited here for lunch during our vacation. My wife and I both had the lunch buffet. All of the food was good, but the pizza was fantastic, especially the crust. Would definitely come back just for the pizza again.

We have been wanting some Italian food like we had in Italy and some one recommended Mario's. we went in late; right before closing so was worried service and food would not be great but we were pleasantly surprised. we were greeted right away and... I had the eggplant which a side of alfredo pasta. It was fabulous. I could taste the real butter and cream in the alfredo sauce. If I'd been at home I would have licked the plate. Be warned, this place will bust your diet plans. My only regret was that I was so full from the rich, delicious meal that... More
