Description: It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game. Giovanni always dreamed of being a professional fisherman, so he decided to give it a shot and made the drive to Galveston. After battles of sea sickness, Giovanni quickly decided that the fish business wasn’t for him.Heartbroken, Giovanni was about to move back to New Jersey when he met Mario Bonaccorso who was trying to open a pizzeria. The two became great friends, and together, these two young Italian entrepreneurs started Mario’s Flying Pizza and brought the “pizza pie” to Galveston Island.Today, we are still family owned and operated and are considered a delightful, neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We serve a wide variety of Italian cuisine and New York style pizza and strive to use fresh, seasonal, ingredients wherever possible, so come on in, sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a nice glass of wine at Mario’s Ristorante!

On the upper end of the seawall with amble parking right next door. We went several times and were never disappointed. On this particular occasion we had the 16" Marios Special and it was special. I also requested anchovies on my half and they were plentiful. Excellent crust and plenty of toppings. Delicious. We managed all except one piece and... More

Wow, what a great meal! I wasn't sure when we pulled into the nearly empty parking lot that we had made a good choice for dinner but my hesitation when away as our food arrived. I had the best lobster ravioli ever and my wife was very happy with her seafood fettuccine. We had our 2 yr. old granddaughter with... More

The staff were all very friendly. The kids were excited to have pizza dough thrown at them. The food was hot and tasty.

We recently visited Mario's Ristorante for dinner, and it was fabulous as usual. My friend and I shared the new Caprese pizza, and my husband had the Shrimp Diavolo. They were both awesome! And our waitress was terrific - very attentive and made great recommendations for us. If you are looking for the best pizza on Galveston Island, you definitely... More

We ate here on Saturday evening, June 28th. The spaghetti and meatballs were excellent but a little price at $14.95 per person and the portions were not as big as they have been in the past. But, as always, the sauce and the meatballs were AMAZING! The other drawback to Mario's is that you do not receive a house salad... More

Wonderful place for a family dinner, large portions filled our teenage boys up which is hard to do. Food is delicious great pasta. My husband loved his veal. Espresso and dessert are worth saving room for. Nice booth seats to relax and enjoy dinner in.

The view was fun. Great for people watching. Ask for a window seat. The hand tossed pizza was awesome. Decent kids menu too. Our service started off slow. Slow to be greeted. Once we were greeted everything was great. Loved the prices too. 1/2 the price of many of the other Italian places that are upscale on the island.
