Description: It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game. Giovanni always dreamed of being a professional fisherman, so he decided to give it a shot and made the drive to Galveston. After battles of sea sickness, Giovanni quickly decided that the fish business wasn’t for him.Heartbroken, Giovanni was about to move back to New Jersey when he met Mario Bonaccorso who was trying to open a pizzeria. The two became great friends, and together, these two young Italian entrepreneurs started Mario’s Flying Pizza and brought the “pizza pie” to Galveston Island.Today, we are still family owned and operated and are considered a delightful, neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We serve a wide variety of Italian cuisine and New York style pizza and strive to use fresh, seasonal, ingredients wherever possible, so come on in, sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a nice glass of wine at Mario’s Ristorante!

This is OK. Salad was fine which we shared as about 8 bucks. Margarita pizza OK but would not get again. Daughter got half order chicken alfredo which she liked but she is 10 so OK. Just seemed to cost more than I would have guessed and nothing special about the ambience . So...... OK

My family visited here for lunch during our vacation. My wife and I both had the lunch buffet. All of the food was good, but the pizza was fantastic, especially the crust. Would definitely come back just for the pizza again.

we actually visited Italy this summer and had our first taste of the local cuisine. We have been wanting some Italian food like we had in Italy and some one recommended Mario's. we went in late; right before closing so was worried service and food would not be great but we were pleasantly surprised. we were greeted right away and... I had the eggplant which a side of alfredo pasta. It was fabulous. I could taste the real butter and cream in the alfredo sauce. If I'd been at home I would have licked the plate. Be warned, this place will bust your diet plans. My only regret was that I was so full from the rich, delicious meal that... More

Went here on our last day in Galveston. If I could recommend anything, try the spaghetti and meatballs, or the meat lovers pizza. The meatballs were large and they didn't skimp on sauce. The toppings on the pizza were delicious an fresh and the crust! Oh God the crust! Chewy and soft. Like I said I'm coming back just for... More

My wife and I took our daughter and son-in-law there to celebrate a major victory in there lives. The food was fantastic, service was friendly and quick, we didn't have to wait in a long line, and we were seated near the beach-side windows. The prices were average for this type service. We paid about a $100 for 4 of... More

We had a group of around 25 and the Mario's had a room set up for us. They allowed us to order off the menu and had separate checks for us. Great food!!!

Restaurant claims to have the best pizza in town, but it wasn't that great. The cheapest pasta dish was $15 and upward from there. Don't order the Salad Caprese unless you want just mozzarella cheese and tomatoes on a plate...no salad to it. Limited wine selection. Pizza ingredients were not as fresh as other places. We would not return.

Had dinner there on 8/14/14. The service was excellent, but I thought the food was just okay. I had the seafood alfredo with shrimp, crawfish and crab for $19.00. I thought the portion was average or on the small side. What was strange was the amount of sliced garlic in the sauce (huge hunks about 4 cloves). I was very... More
