It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game. Giovanni always dreamed of being a professional fisherman, so he decided to give it a shot and made the drive to Galveston. After battles of sea sickness, Giovanni quickly decided that the fish business wasn’t for him.Heartbroken, Giovanni was about to move back to New Jersey when he met Mario Bonaccorso who was trying to open a pizzeria. The two became great friends, and together, these two young Italian entrepreneurs started Mario’s Flying Pizza and brought the “pizza pie” to Galveston Island.Today, we are still family owned and operated and are considered a delightful, neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We serve a wide variety of Italian cuisine and New York style pizza and strive to use fresh, seasonal, ingredients wherever possible, so come on in, sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a nice glass of wine at Mario’s Ristorante!

While staying at Moody Gardens hotel waiting to depart on The Navigator of The Seas, we ordered a pizza from Marios. A great idea. Pizza was warm and tasted great and the price was right. We'll do this again next year when we go on another cruise.

The pizza was excellent! I got the alfredo spinach one and my only complaint was that there was not enough of it. The atmosphere was a little iffy when we first got there though. Two tables were arguing across the room and one big guy got up and I thought it was about to get dangerous. Luckily they left. As... More

Mario's was one of the best meals during our Galveston stay. Everything was delicious. Salads, cheese sticks, stuffed mushrooms, lasagna, ziti, and chicken parmesan. None of them disappointed. And there was plenty to take home, so share a meal if you prefer. The staff were all friendly and efficient. I wish we could have gone a second time to try... More

The food was good, the service was good, and the desert was fantastic! Not too over priced and pretty quick as well. I had a veggie calzone, which was great, but I was really blown away by the lemon gelato I had for desert. It was very sweet and featured lemon cookie bites. I would definitely eat here again.

Our party of 4 was seated promptly and drinks delivered quickly. We had 2 hungry little girls and they made sure our food came out quickly. All of us were very pleased. My daughter who is 11 and lives her Italian food still claims this as her favorite restaurant. Anytime we go to Galveston this is a must on our... More

Very nice Italian restaurant. We just had appetizers and pizza but they were very good. The service was a little slow at times, at one point our waiter went to get water and didn't come back for 15 minutes or more! Other than that is was great.

This is a great place to grab a medium cheese pizza take it to the beach have a couple of wine coolers with yourself and watch the sunset. The pizza was oven brick andperfect for our setting. When we visit again and have more time we do plan to go back inside nd dine in the restaurant.
