Yum!

The brisket is delicious, but the sides are nothing special. We love the baked potato with sliced beef the best! A very casual restaurant. There is outdoor seating too, so if the weather is nice, it's even better. Once they run out of barbecue each day, they close, so go early!

Excellent BBQ but the place was a bit run down looing and sort of out of the way. You have to look for it. But we enjoyed our meal.

We choose this restaurant for there gluten free choice. Everything but the bread and pudding. There come slaw was good not all vinegar. The ribs my son had were so tender the fell off the bone.

Husband and I are road tripping through the Texas Hill country trying BBQ and this place was mentioned to us so we thought we'd give it a try. Not my favorite. Some chains do it better. We had the brisket green beans and tea. Brisket tasted more like pot roast that was left to sit in beef broth, green beans... More

Husband and I disagree on the meats here. He said his brisket was awesome - prime beef, tender, and delicious. I, on the other hand, ordered the pork plate and was disappointed. Although it was tender, it had absolutely no flavor. I even added salt. I must confess that my favorite BBQ is the Southern pork barbecue marinaded in a... More

On our last day in the Hill Country, we finally made it to Cranky Frank's, and boy are we glad we did! It was the 4th BBQ place we visited in as many days. The only drawback - the hours are only 11am-3pm and we were usually somewhere else. We ribs, sausage, and pulled pork - all were excellent. The... More

It's hard to beat Cooper's but who wants to drive 40 miles to Llano for BBQ? This is a decent standby.

having been on a bbq team in tx for 30 years+ i feel that i 'm qualified to say the brisket, while tender, didnot have the smokyflavor i would have liked, using more oak, mesquite or pecan would flavor the meat more, imho, the brisket was long on tenderness and short on taste, for my tastebuds. also while good, the... Best BBQ in Fredericksburg! So good we ate there twice...once for ribs and once for brisket! Frank's closes early so be sure you go for lunch...they tend to run of the good stuff around 1:00. The sides were homemade and very good.

As with most of the hometown BBQ's, being named after the owner does not even suggest how good this place is to feast at. I have never had a so-so meal there, they have all bee great. Like all really good BBQs, they serve the meat, and you serve the rest of the fixings. Best of all are the BBQ... More
