This place is great if the weather isn't too hot and you want to sit outdoors on a really neat patio and people watch and have an interesting draft german beer. If you try to order a meal you'll probably be disappointed. If you eat inside the restaurant you'll definitely be disappointed, because there is no atmosphere. If you want... more

After having yet another great lunch at the Altdorf I came home and decided to write a review about the restaurant. Then I saw the bad reviews of the place. What universe do these people live in? I live about 25 miles away and my wife and I come up for lunch whenever we get the chance. After 22 years... more

My grandparents and I recently visited Fredericksburg; our first night there, we went to Altdorf, because my grandfather said that when they visited the restaurant several years ago, it was very good. The restaurant itself was filthy, the service was poor, and they seemed to be very proud of their food--i.e., prices were high. In a town that's famous for... more

I brought my family to Altdorf's since we had been several time, last being about 4 years ago. We remember if for good basic German food and relaxing outdoor setting. Well the patio is still relaxing, but the food and service have significantly declined. The restaurant was half full, but it took 25 minutes for the food to arrive after... more

We were seated to wait 15 minutes for a waitress to come and take our drink order. Brings drinks, takes food order. 20 minutes pass before we see the waitress again. She brings the food, my crappy potato needs butter, I wait, I wait, I wait. I see the manager I tell him I need butter and that I am... more

Very slow service and terrible food. My wife and nephew shared the pork tenderloin and neither could finish it, it was so bad. (It sounds really good in the menu description.) The sides which came with the meal (red cabbage and spiced noodles) were really bad as well. I wasn't really in the mood for German food, so I ordered... more

Here goes............ Service was good, I can't complain about that but....... the food.........well... it needs something........ My chicken enchiladas were served with some kind of white sauce. For the life of me I don't get it...........what in the world was it? Another person in the group ordered the smoked pork tenderloin. It was more expensive at $ 14.95 and terribly... more

I was clear with the waitress about my dietary restrictions, and even asked if the saukraut had pork products (like another restaurant in town), which it didn't. But the sweet and sour potatoes had little chunks of ham in it. I was very disapointed (I ate some before realizing it), and told her so. There was no apology and our... more

I might be a little biased on my opinion because I live close to Fredericksburg, but the Altdorf Restaurant is the BEST in town. The atmosphere takes one away from the tourist-filled streets and the service makes you feel very welcome. They have an amazing selection of german beer, and non-alcoholic drinks for the small children. The food is to... more
