This is a wonderful place to eat with such a variety of foods all done well. Chef Glenn Jung, really knows his food and owners Tula and Sean Smajstrala have created an atmosphere of great service, affordable prices for both locals and tourists alike. I have eaten there on several occasions and it never disappoints me. Breakfast, brunch, lunch and... More

We were part of a large group of eight, which was not at all an issue for The Rathskeller. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the German plate of sausage and sauerkraut. Another guest in our party was very enthusiastic about his vanilla ice cream dessert!

We came in for breakfast on a Sunday, and we were not disappointed. My husband got the duck breast, and the fat had been properly rendered out. My friend has celiac, so we asked for a Gluten-Free menu. They have them for lunch and dinner but not for breakfast, but the waitress was very knowledgeable and highly accommodating. The mimosas... Wife and I took a small get away to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in Fredericksburg. For a dinner out, we researched a number of restaurants and found Rathskeller's reasonably priced, located in the town center, and more importantly, OPEN in January. We had a great dinner, and were allowed a table in the back, even though they weren't packed... More

We went in for lunch. The food was the best we ate our whole trip, but we almost left because no one would come serve us. All in all, I'd go back.

Cool basement breakfast and lunch spot. If you're with a group there is a nice stone dining room with a long table. Otherwise, the decor is fairly plain. The food was better than several other restaurants we ate at while in Fredericksburg. We ordered Opa's sampler with cheddar sausage (awesome), sauerkraut (better than Auslander's) and coleslaw (nice contrast to the... More

We are willing to try it again for lunch or dinner, but the breakfast wasn't good. It was very plain.

Stopped in for a late breakfast and had eggs over easy (came on the watery side) with bacon crisp (came as ordered), English muffin well done (came as ordered but I'm always disappointed when it isn 't Thomas's out of the toaster rather than grilled) and home fried potatoes (very disappointed as not the way I'm used to having them... My husband and I were seated right away. When our waitress come over she didn't say hello or anything, just asked what we wanted to drink. After we ordered tea, we never saw her again. After 15 minutes of waiting we left and went to another establishment down the street. Needless to say, we won't be returning.
