We don't make it up there to eat as often as we would like (we live in San Antonio), but we are obsessed with this place. Their lean brisket and smoked turkey smothered in their own BBQ sauce.. doesn't get any better. The only side I have to absolutely have when I go there is their coleslaw... and I seriously... More

The BBQ tastes delicious, the atmosphere is great, good sized servings. Probably some of the best BBQ I have ever had. I tried the pork ribs, brisket, and sausage - all great. The only downside is that it's the most expensive BBQ rest. in the US. Overall, great for special occasions. I would definitely eat there again, but will have... More

This is not the best BBQ place I've ever been to - but I can say that was the most enjoyable. The atmosphere, from the open pit inside to the benches for seating to the great servers, was terrific. I had the brisket (great!) and pork ribs (OK). The sides were just fair - the slaw was different and the... More

We were visiting hill country from the as part of a road trip across texas and I am so glad we came across this place! If only we had places like these in the UK.... Firstly the food is out of this world and I have never tasted BBQ like it. They have a incredible BBQ pit that you smell... More

I have always wanted to try the famous Salt Lick, and since we were driving in the Hill Country, I looked it up. It is literally out in the middle of nothing but beautiful Texas Hill Country, and then you pull up to the experience! What an awesome place, there was a band playing in the courtyard, I wish we... My out of town visitors weren't very interested in Texas barbecue, but we took them to Salt Lick last Sunday anyway. They were completely won over. It was exactly what a Texas Barbecue restaurant should be. The friendly wait staff and comfortable surroundings were great, but the food was even better. I have eaten a lot of baby back ribs,... I've had plenty of 'bbq' in my life, but never the kind that could cure depression or recreate Meg Ryan's Sleepless in Seattle scene until I had Salt Lick. The menu is straightforward, standard BBQ fare, but the flavor is unreal. It's a 25 minute, easy drive from Austin. The restaurant and parking occupy many acres and there is casual... More

After exquisite hours and events in Austin, we wanted a totally opposite 'next day' experience. And was this the right place. A wine tasting room with the deck covered by a live Oak that has to be over a 100 years old! The BBQ is the best in Texas. I am not lying...THE BEST! You know it is so when... More

Wow, this barbecue is amazing. Truly is the best barbecue! This will spoil you for barbecue elsewhere. The potato salad was also very good. Worth the wait, for sure. FYI, cash only. They do have an ATM on site.

Heard a lot about this place but it was a far drive from where I'm currently located (Austin, TX). It took us about ~40 minutes from Austin. Once you check in, there is about a 45 minute wait (we went for late lunch on Saturday). Your wait time will go much faster if you explore the other parts of the... More
