It's all about the meats

We were in austin and had several people say go to the salt lick. The meats were very good. Now the sides were so so but we did not come for the sides. We had a slight wait to get in and its picnic table and bench seating. So if you want top of the line smoked meat and don't... read more

Fourth of July and BBQ, right? So we decided to try the famous Salt Lick. When we pulled into the parking lot, we thought we would wait forever, but our party of 10 was seated in half an hour. BBQ was good, my husband recommends the turkey (yes, the turkey!) We also had brisket, which I thought was very good,... More

Usually our visit to driftwood involves a hour waiting for a table at Salt Lick. The wait is not bad because of the beautiful Texas hill country and the friendly staff and patrons. This time we decided to call ahead and order to go. The pick up took about 10 minutes and went as smoothly as could be expected for... More

The food was great but the service was a mess. Just signing up for a beeper was an issue. There was no one at the sign up window so we walked into the restaurant. We were told to go back outside and get in line. We went outside, got in the only like there ad found out it was to... More

The food here is unbelievable. Love, love, love eating here. Everytime I visit San Antonio I take a trip to Driftwood to eat here. The sausage, turkey, ribs and brisket are to die for. Oh and I forgot about the chocolate pecan pie, OMG. Heard about this place from Willie Nelson's movie "When Angels Sing".

We went to the Salt Lick, about a 45 minute drive from Austin city center. reviews said to come hungry, so we did. Got there at 2pm, told we had a 1 hour and 45 minute wait. we were famished so we had our meal in reverse! Able to get a peach cobbler to go, and we sat in their... More

On a recent Q crawl around the Republic, I knew we had to make a stop at the Salt Lick. While the atmosphere and food are adequate, they cannot compete with Cooper's up in Llano, Luling City Market in Luling, or Black's in Lockhart. First of all, Q comes in waxed paper, not on plates. Second, waiters and waitresses are... More

Came here on a Friday night so there was a 1.5 hour wait but it was a pleasant wait thanks to live music and a few beers! I got the all you can eat special so here's the breakdown: brisket is tender, sausage is okay (good and salty but regular sausage) and the ribs came right off the bone. I... More

We loved the experience of driving out to Salt Lick....what a beautiful part of the country. Great atmosphere and service and the food was fresh and delicious. Our favorite was the brisket. My husband had the moist version and I had the less fatty cut. Both were good. We didn't like the burnt ends as much and the turkey was... More

Loved the place which includes a winery on site. The brisket is so moist and tender. The flavor is amazing and you can BYOB!
