We asked everyone in town for a BBQ place and everyone one had a different place to go. We chose Salt Lick. We drove in from Austin, and the ride to get to Salt Lick was pleasant and scenic. We were amazed how big the place was. It was crowded but we got seated very quickly. A cool part about... More

By far the best BBQ ever. There was an hour wait but they give you so many things to watch and do during that time that you barely notice it tick by. The food was delicious. I seriously have absolutely NO complaints. GO AND SHARE with the people you are with. Order the family style and you will not be... More

The food at this place is very good with ample portions and the atmosphere is a kick. Come early on the weekends or it will take a while to get seated and the parking lot will be full. Wait staff are young and fun and friendly. Great place to people watch while you wait for a table. We will definitely... More

On vacation heard about this great barbecue place. We were not disappointed. My husband is a meat & potato guy so he was in heaven. He even took a picture of the meat pit. We loved the barbecue sauce, ribs, brisket, pulled pork and turkey. Yes, they had smoked turkey that our party loved. Good size portions. I will say... More

Yes. It is delicious barbeque. Yes. It is authentic. Yes. It is worth the drive and the wait. My favorites are the ribs - fall off the bone tender and meaty - and the bread; but it's all good. Try to save room for dessert because the cobbler is delicious, too, but good luck with that! To experience the Salt... More

I bought into the hype and promotion of national TV hosts, but in reality it's average barbecue available anywhere. The mustard based sauce slathered on everything and no side options (potato salad, slaw, and beans) limit the appeal. This coupled with small portions of meat, offset the rustic charm of the rural setting. You can find BBQ just as good... More

Took my mom here when she came to visit my husband and I while we stationed in Fort Hood. Its a long wait but there was music and fresh made lemonade to help. The food was amazing, I'm not a big brisket person but I found it delicious. We all agreed it was the best BBQ we've ever had!

My boyfriend and I ate here during our visit to Austin and both enjoyed it. Starting off with when we got there, the wait was long! We were both hungry and the wait took at least 45minutes. Definitely make a reservation! The waiting area outside is nice though with a bar and picnic tables. After being seated we ordered brisket,... More

I've heard a lot about this place, so I had to check it out while visiting TX. The food and ambiance were great, but the service was not. I was immediately greeted upon arrival, and taken to a table where I waited (and waited, and waited). Several other tables around me were seated after me, but waited-on soon after (subsequently... The difference between a good restaurant and great one often lies in the atmosphere. We went in on a Thursday night, roughly 13 of us, and we didn't have to wait too long. Inside the restaurant there are an abundance of seats and right by the entrance you'll find the enormous pit in which they cook all of their meats... More
