I've been coming to the Salt lick for years and it never disappoints. The staff was great getting us in quick on a busy day and the food was excellent. I've done the Texas Bbq trail several times and this is still a must stop.

We attended a lovely Wedding rehearsal dinner at the Salt Lick which was set up in a private room and allowed our party to sample all of this restaurants delectable offerings. The lite appetizers and open bar was an excellent way to start the evening. Once seated for dinner the waiters brought us huge family style platters full of all... More

Don’t miss this dynamic, huge, bbq place about 20 minutes outside of Austin. A wonderful stop if you are doing the Hill Country Wine tours to the west of Austin. Service is friendly, welcoming, and fast! Portions are ample. Meats are just the tastiest, moist, tender, flavorful, and properly seasoned. Sides are good but a little vinegary on the slaw.... More

This is definitely worth the 30 minute drive from Austin! I had a half chicken with potato salad, beans and slaws and hubby had the "lean" brisket sandwich with same sides included. They were both excellent. We saved room to split a slice of pecan pie and ice cream. This is such a cool place in the Texas Hill Country... More

No turkey right before Thanksgiving? Odd (or saving it to fill Thanksgiving orders?). The atmosphere is nice but it was a bit loud at lunch on a Friday. Cash only!

It's about 20-30 minutes outside of the downtown area, but so worth it. It was some of the best BBQ I've ever had. The place is HUGE, but their able to maintain the quality and service. Everyone was super friendly and made sure we were not just serviced, but was having a good time. Highly recommend.

Well, I saw this place on the food channel just before we set 'sail' for Yosemite, so we jiggered the route in order to work it in our itinerary. The barbeque was excellent; we had pulled pork and the portions were generous. The sides need help, however. The slaw was so-so and well, the beans left much to be desired.... More

This was our first visit on this trip and I was so hoping that the standard had gone back up to when we first began visiting, unfortunately, not to be the case. The chicken was dry and tasteless and the ribs were also so dry there was noway I could finish them. This is the 3rd time in 2015 that... More

Average at best. Not up to true Texas standards. Very popular, but there are much better places around. Go to Franklin's in Austin, Ronnie's in Johnson City, or Blacks in Lockhart.

This is must place to eat when visiting Austin, Texas! Salt Lick started many years ago, and has grown around the original BBQ pit where all of the grilling takes place. I recommend the family dinner that comes with unlimited brisket, sausage, ribs, home made coleslaw and potato salad. The meat was done perfectly...moist, tender and very tasty! There are... More
