Texas BBQ with Austin Atmosphere

We were on our way to LBJ ranch when we decided to take a left and go to Driftwood Texas. I had heard that Salt Lick had great bbq, but I wasn't ready for Salt Lick. It looks like a western compound just for incredible food. We went into a huge roughly wooden establishment with heavenly smells. I... read more

This was our 2nd visit to a Texas BBQ place. The Salt Lick is a little out of the way (at least for us Easterners) but worth the trip. The facility is very large and has the parking to accomodate a large crowd. Be aware that the parking is in a "field" and was somewhat muddy on the day we... More

The Salt Lick is an event that you have to make sure you have time to spend walking the grounds to discover some interesting nuggets! The Salt Lick is a cash only place, so right off the bat you need to make sure you have some cash with you to pay. There is an ATM nearby just in case. It's... More

I was really confused when family and friends described it. We arrived at 5 pm on Saturday. We signed up for a table and were told it was a 45 minute wait. We picked a stone bench in the center, to wait for 2 others. I went for a stroll. When I came back, we had popcorn, the last of... More

I have seen this place on TV but underestimated the size and popularity. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and the wait was about an hour and a half. Time passed quickly as we browsed the general store and wine cellar. The grounds are beautiful. Based on what we saw on the Food Network we ordered the family plate and... More

This is my favorite bbq spot when visiting family in Austin. I prefer this original location over their other newer locations. Don't judge the place by what they serve at the Austin airport location. Service is always good and of course the bbq doesn't disappoint. My only criticism is the cobbler. Not the worst I've had but def not the... More

Huge place out in the middle of nowhere. We ate on the "newer" side where they duplicated the awesome open pit cooking area. Our server Colton was very accommodating and pleasant. I had the ribs and hubby had a mixed plate. It was all very delicious. We went on a quiet night which was nice as I can imagine it... More

We had planned to take a weekend trip to Austin, and of course, on our way there it's usually a mandatory stop to have lunch here per wife request! We stopped by a little after lunch time and the wait time was a few minutes. Service was good and food was great! Wife got her usual brisket and turkey combo... More

This is what BBQ should be: open pit, great meats, great sauces and comfortable setting. Everything was cooked just right, lots of smokiness in the meats. Service was quick and friendly. BYOB keeps the tab low.

This place is awesome! Between the many indoor and outdoor seating areas it almost feels like you're walking through a small BBQ complex. Between two people we ordered every meat that they serve and WOW, it was great! The beef brisket was my favorite- tender, moist, and just enough fat. The homemade pickles were good and all of the sides... More
