The Downtown El Fenix is the OG when it comes to DFW TEX MEX. Quick service, tasty chips and salsa (a good sign of good tex mex) and low prices make this place a great stop. Our favorite thing here is the tacos and enchiladas. New to Tex-Mex? Go for the cheese enchilada with chile con carne, its a great... More

The service was excellent. Vary spacious restaurant that has been in business for nearly 100 years. Food was excellent. Salsa and queso are traditional family recipes that taste great!~

I too have eaten at El Fenix in one location or another for the better part of my life. I don't live in Dallas anymore but I still eat here on every visit. It's true I carry a taste memory from childhood. And yes, the restaurant has seen a few highs and lows over the decades. Right now, however is... More

I went to lunch at the El Fenix on Lemon Avenue in Dallas recently, and the food quality is really going down. I ordered the Brisket Nachos - a new item on their menu. I got a big plate of chips (the bottom ones were cemented to the plate) with some brisket, beans and tomato chunks sprinkled on top. There... More

My husband and I were in the mood for Mexican and on vacation in Dallas Texas. We researched and found El Fenix. The hostess and waiters were fun and recommended items for us to try. Their chips/salsa and Guac dip are the best I've ever had. The service was quick and the drinks were frozen. Please stop by and tell... More

Chain Mexican food is my least favorite, but this was a little better than expected. Good salsa and guacamole, decent entrees. The hit of the evening was our waiter Luis, who handled our group of 12 with ease, was polite, charming and handled a couple of unusual requests with no problem. He did receive a generous tip.

If it isn't the birthplace of Tex mex, it's pretty darn close. Authentic texmex at a very resonable price.

New dinner specials are excellent. Just like high end/price TexMex for less. Fish tacos were amazing as was the new queso with poblano peppers. The staff was friendly and attentive without being annoying and pushy. Can not wait to go back!!
