Great concept!

On the way to Olivella's at Mockingbird and Abrams for a pizza we noticed that Rex's was open and was doing a brisk business. I had shrimp and grits, my wife had the fish tacos. Both were tasty and prepared properly. Definitely a great place to get fresh seafood in land-locked Dallas.

The seafood is very good (and we have lived in Charleston, SC, Tampa, FL, and Bellingham, WA). Serving sizes were good as well. More of a diner atmosphere, and we love that. Much better to pay for the food and not the building. Service was a little slow, but not unreasonably so. Restaurant is VERY near Dallas Love field. Would... More

Friday night at the newly opened Lovers and Mockingbird busy at 6:30, but got seated. So go early. A few large groups waiting by 7. Serving is attentive and cheerful by Clifton and all servers. Greeted by Rex at the entrance too. Salmon with glaze buttery tender melt in your mouth perfection. Steamed asparagus and the best sautéed spinach ever.... More

My wife and I had lunch there last week. It is a seafood market, so you can purchase fish to take home and prepare. The food was good, but the New England clam chowder was off the scale. Next time we will get a full bowl and not just a cup. Yes, we will make this a repeat.

I enjoyed something I thought I would never eat: halibut cheeks. Who knew that this would be one of the most sublime meals I ever had? Flaky white fish in what I would describe as almost coin-like i shape, combined with Rex's shrimp and grits and collard greens. One of my friends had the fish and chips, which the server... More

The ambiance is that of a diner luncheonette but the prices were that of a sit down fancy restaurant. I had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, which did not have much flavor and were greasy. I had ceviche, also without flavor, for lunch with a side salad. The salad was priced separately at $7 and was served on... More

We would originally buy prepared seafood soups and gumbos at Rex's and then they opened up a great restaurant with some of the freshest fish in town.

I have eaten here twice and both times had the Seafood Cobb Salad. Amazing. It has crab and lobster and shrimp, plus all the traditional cobb salad items. It is not cheap at $24, but it is perfection. The wait staff here is low key and smooth. The vibe is casual. It is definitely "neighborhoody." The dining room is small.... More

This was not my original destination, which was around the corner, but I spotted Rex's in route so I decided to give them a try. It seemed to be a seafood market first, but with seating. You would not come here for the ambiance. The service was very good. I had three items, one a Spicy Tuna Tartare that was... More
