Texas Tradition

I will not go to College Station without going to the Chicken. The food is good and the atmosphere is even better. Play a game of dominoes or pool, or just sit back with a cold beverage with friends. A great place to hang out. Just stopping by on your way though is a Texas tradition. Carve your... read more

Country music, animal heads on the walls, license plates patching the wood floor, and initials carved into everything, this is a classic Texas college bar with pool tables and beer on tap. The food is not the draw, it is the place. We had lunch on a Sunday, so pretty tame crowd on hand. You order at a counter in... More

Traditional eats at college station. I'd call it average and overpriced for chicken. Nonetheless you have to stop by with your college student.

What a surprise. This place is a famed Texas A&M University hangout. I was taken aback as to how dirty the place was. Restrooms are atrocious. Dining rooms not much better. I think that the place is very popular following football game day whereas the beer flows like a river and rowdiness abounds. Probably like Bourbon Street, best not seen... More

This place was average at best. Food was not impressive, atmosphere was typical bar, and staff seemed uninterested. Not sure why it was so highly recommended by the locals.

Loved the casual atmosphere and old Texas style! The beer was cold, $6.50 for a pitcher, the food was fried and they played country music, what else do you need on a hot summers day???

It has been years, perhaps a couple of decades, since I visited the Dixie Chicken; I usually go to the Chicken Oil Company in Bryan, which has the same owners. On this occasion we were celebrating the birthday of a colleague who had been away for quite some time. The service was friendly, the beer was cold, and the hamburgers... More

This place is an absolute must if you are in college station. It is a tired cliche but this place is a tradition. I don't believe I've ever met anyone who just doesn't think the place is great. It is a bit overwhelming when you walk in but it doesn't take long to feel just like anywhere else.
